Hi! Raj.   Great news about your results. I've just completed round 4 of Sutent and will begin # 5 Thurs. I'm afraid I haven't heard that Sutent is a cure for rcc., at some point it stops working and a new treatment program is needed. So I suggest we make the most of each day we're given. That's why it's called the present. Just keep on thinking those positive thoughts and share with us how you're doing.  Take Care   John

Hi Rajasaju

Your news is wonderful to hear, you are very fortunate to have such a good response to Sutent in a short time. My husband had been on Sutent since Oct07 for RCC mets to adrenal gland, lungs and liver and although Sutent slowed the progress considerably they are increasing so he had to come off. Part of the problem for him was that a side effect on his blood counts were too severe to continue on full dosage. He did try lowering the dosage but the dr decided to try something else.

However, why I am responding is I know of a couple of people who have gone into remission after being on Sutent (as you know you are never cured) and been there for at least 12 months. They were kept on Sutent for some months after the no tumour report, I suppose to try for those stray cells. So while you are having such great response keep positive. I wish you well and hope a future message will be remission.

Our thoughts and prayers. Hopensw

hi we have great news we have been on sutent since August 06 and have just  started cycle 12 and we have seen his lymph node decrease this time from 3.8 to 3.2 cm and lung mets have remained stable--he is handling side effects ok still functions pretty good most days and has been able to tolerate the side effects like neuropathy of his hands and arma and legs and bottom of feet are hurting---aches and pains in bones and joints, retaining some fluid, altered taste, can't sleep well. weakness andfatigue daily some diahrea and stomach acts up but carafate and prilosec keep that in line most days, some dizziness and a menthol feeling all thru his body from 2nd week of cycle on to end of it-----some drs are too quick to change from the sutent sometimes it seems to take a little longer to show results  but I think some onc get nervous and go to another  one to soon  I hear torisel is working for many and that the biggest side effect is mouth sores and fatigue ---well keep believing and stay positive andknow there is hope with all our new drugs for rcc that we didn't have before it may not cure it but go into remission--- ever day alive is a gift take care Peace, sue

You have truly given me hope for a brighter tomorrow.  God is blessing you everyday.  Please continue to share your success with us all.  I have RCC.  My right kidney has been removed and now have mets to my right lung.  I am on my first cycle of Sutent and is tolerating it well.   The unknown is so frightening (whether it is working or not).  I am trying to stay positive and believe.  So hearing of your success lessens the fear somewhat.

Hello Raj, glad to hear all is going well so far.  My husband, 45, was losing weight and anemic for 2 months, and in trying to find out why, they discovered a mass on his left kidney.  He had surgery in May.  They removed a 3 lb. tumor, his left kidney, spleen and 30% of his diaphragm. The renal cell cancer is a mixed cell tumor, part clear cell, and part sarcoidoma, which is very rare.  Follow up scans showed a small 7mm nodule in his right upper lung, so he will start sutent next week.  This has been a very hard journey so far for our whole family. News like yours helps us lean into hope.  I would appreciate any other encouragement out there, as renal cell cancer articles are not overly positive with prognosis.

Wow! on Stutent for 12 cycles!  that is good new for us novices.  My wife is ending her 3d cycle today (1s two 50 mg, this one 37.5 mg) and the CT before she started this cycle showed no lesions in one lung & shrinkage in the lesions of the other & of the liver.  She is tolerating the lesser dosage better, & we will get the results of another CT on 08-11, so will know more then.  Our son, who is starting the 4th year of a 5 year residency in urology next month, is very encouraged by her progress so far. Thanks for the good news that there is hope it may continue.  We put our trust in the same higher power all the good folks in AA acknowledge, and that is reassuring.

Hi I am on cycle twelve now. I had an initial shrinkage of my two tumours then stable then a diagnosis of some necrosis (dead tumour tissue) about three months ago and last CT some evidence of fluid in the tumours which is consdiered to be a response. On pressing I asked what that meant and it could mean a breaking down of the tumours.  It will be monitored and we will see what happens next however I am stable not too bad on the side effects so all hopefully will continue! I am on 50mg sutent and have been all along.
