My husband was diagnosed with colorectal cancer with mets to the liver on June 5, 2007. He underwent 10 folfox plus avastin treatments followed by 5 and 1/2 weeks of radiation with 5fu running constant. He had the rectal tumor and both liver tumors successfully removed on January 17, 2008. He also had a pull down procedure to reconstuct his rectal area which was also considered a sphincter sparing procedure. He came home with a temporary ileostomy bag and every four weeks since then has had to undergo a dye test to determine if he was healed enough to do the reversal. About six weeks ago he had to have corrective surgery to help his pull down procedure heal. His first scheduled petscan since his surgery was ten days later. The pet scan indicated two questionalbe areas. One near the rectal tumor resection and one near one of the liver tumor resected areas. About a week prior to the biopsy, he started to feel discomfort in his abdomen. The night before the biopsy, he notice that his bag wasn't emptying properly. By morning, it was confirmed that he had an obstruction and was hospitalized overnight. He was given and iv flush which by morning, he began to empty normally. The biopsy was done and several days later we were told that the liver biopsy was benign and the rectal area was inflamation from the corrective procedure. This past Friday, he was finally healed and able to successfully have his reversal. All went well and just home a few hours ago. Hope this helps. God be with you.
