My wife came home from chemo and mowed our lawn by hand, a pretty big one, I lost her in January to a side effect of her bone marrow transplant, chronic graft versus host, but she reacted differently to meds than the normal person so don't let this discourage you just be aware, my family understands how things happen, we are not bitter, we gave it our best shot and she was very brave, some graft versus host is good but ask them what is being done to prevent chronic graft versus host, something to do with her donor and certain things they do now to prevent it, I would say if you can avoid the bmt that is a good thing, keep that option open if possible, but I am not a doctor so talk to him get his or hers e-mail and communicate and make sure all meds are taken listen to your doctor they have more knowledge than us,good luck my prayers are with you stay strong, don't give in and exercise all you can.

Thanks for commenting on my advise, and I am so sorry for your loss, can you tell me what type of leukemia she had, how was her donor related to her and in which hospital she did the transplant. As a matter of fact we have decided to go for BMT and already collected the stem cells from my wife sister.
I discussed thoroughly with her Dr. and other Dr’s and they strongly recommend BMT specially with her case.

Good questions, My wife had an unrelated male 31 years old from n.c .She had aml #4 she did so well after chemo and things really looked okay for a while but she was a little stubborn taking her meds sometimes, not taking but going up on her prednizone and immunosurpressants when her graft versus host did flare, Doc said a little was good it would keep the leukemia away. We started at dana farber but due to contract issues on stem cell transplants with my insurance company we went to new englend medical center to Doctor Kenneth Miller, he was awesome and so was the staff there didn't feel like a test there he was treating things the best he could and I admire him greatly even though we lost my wife, after the transplant we came home and although weak she was doing pretty good, the first year looking back was probably her best after transplant, but your wife's sisters stem cells I don't believe you will have this problem. If you want some straight facts enroll in pubmed.com as a medical student you will get all the info you want, sometimes scary but everybody is different and all we can do is go one day at a time, hang in there best of luck .In the future if you would like to talk again I don't mind at all.
