My ovarian cancer was discovered Jan. 2002. I took 7 rounds of taxol/carboplatin and my cancer went into remission for 14 months. The cancer came back. I was put on taxotere/carboplatin and had 3 rounds. My white blood cell counts went down to zero and I was placed in the hospital for almost 2 weeks in isolation. I was placed on Doxil for 13 months and it kept my CA-125 readings around 150 all the time. I went off the Doxil and 4 months later I am on Gemzar. Three weeks on and one week off. I have extreme fatigue and dizziness from this chemotherapy drug. Does this Gemzar really help bring ovarian cancer into remission. I have had only 4 cycles so far. Thanks. Jeanne
Dear, Jeanne,
I just came upon this message as I am new to the system. Did you have any positive outcomes while on the Gemzar? My doctor is trying this form of chemo as I have a tumor wrapped around my internal iliac vein and he wants to see if he can shrink it without another surgery. I too experience the same side effects. I have had almost the same history as you regarding the chemo treatments. I have not been on Doxil. I am a registered nurse and continue looking for treatment options that I can tolerate and allow me more quality of life. Thanks for your help.
