Dr. wanted me to use thyrogen, but there was a hassle with the insurance base being in another state, it was to confussing, I told Dr. lets just go the other opiton, so I went off the synthroid yesterday and started cytomel this morning...the thing that concerns me is that the past week I have been dizzy and lighthead...stopped at Primary cares office Friday he did that 3 blood pessure test and pulse...My pressure drops 30 points from laying to sitting and my pulse is at 56..He said lets start by cutting back the metropolo ....I have been on the same drugs for about a year.....

I am just worried that we did not really resolve the low blood pressure  before I had to start to get ready for the scan...........Just have to keep a close eye on my body's signals.

Can someone tell me.  What am I going to have to watch for and what is going to happen in the next three weeks  I want to know the difference between the thyroid issues and the what else is going on. ............Rosie

I can't answer your main most important questions, but as far as Thyrogen is concerned; I had no insurance hassle at all.  In the future, if you want it, call Genzyme directly (makers of thyrogen).  They have a department that will advise you and work with your insurance company.

Hi Rosie, I'm sorry to hear you've been dizzy and not feeling well already. I am in the same situation... trying to sort out what symptoms are thyroid and which aren't. The low BP and heart rate you describe sound just like what I have, although I've had issues with that since early childhood and I'm now 33. I was diagnosed 6 years ago with POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome) which can cause the drops in BP particularly when you change positions. I have gone thru RAI preparation twice and have gone hypo (no thyrogen). I can tell you it wasn't fun at all and I had a lot of symptoms such as tremors/shakiness/dizziness which the doctor wasn't sure if it was the lack of hormone or the POTS. I would suggest you do a little research for the common symptoms associated with going hypo/low iodine diet and be on the look out for anything else that seems different. I wish you luck!! Rocio

Hi Homesick,

I just did my 3rd I131 radiation treatment in 7 years.  The reason you are feeling these symptoms is because you are hypothyroid (without the synthroid).  You're probably extremely hypo right now.  You should tell your doctor.  When this happened to me my doctor had me go on the synthroid every other day.

Also-- this time around I found out a person shouldn't have more than 600 milicures (not sure if I spelled that right) of I 131 radiation treatment in their lifetime.  Anything above that could lead to lukemia later in life.
