Subject: 1 Year Anniversary - What to expect???
Date: 06/09/2008

June 1st was my 1 year anniversary of my TT for thyroid cancer.  I went to the endo last week and he gave me a script to the nuclear doctor for a consultation, I-131 Neck/Chest Scan, and there is a note "Thyrogen Stimulated".  Can anyone tell me what to expect in the consulation?  I haven't visited this site since last year.  It was a great support when I went through the TT last year.  So now here I am again...needed some support and info.  What are they planning to do to me for my one year anniversary? Should I expect gifts?? hahaha  Thanks everyone!

Hi Shelby!  I'm in the same boat.  Scheduled to start my LID the Wednesday after July 4th.  The following Monday morning I go in for blood work and my first thyrogen injection (in the buttock) (went totally hypo first time around).  The second morning I go in for my second thyrogen injection.  The 3rd morning I go to nuclear for my scanning dose of iodine.  The 4th morning I have my whole body scan and the 5th morning I go back in for the blood work again.  Then, I was told to come back to the endo in one month to go over my results.  This will determine if a second dose of RAI will be needed.  Can' wait!

Thanks so much.  They told me I would need to go to the hospital for five days straight.  I was just wondered what I should expect.  I guess we are in the same boat!  I think the worst part of this whole process last year was the going hypo part. For me, thankfully, the surgery was the easy part.  It was the hypo that kick my butt.    I'm just praying that my insurance will cover those shots everyone talks about.  I'm still waiting to hear from the doctor to see.

My insurance is Aetna.  The injections, according to my insurance pay out, runs just under $2000.00.  They actually supplied the thyrogen and shipped it to my doctors office directly.

I did Thyrogen.  My insurance covered all of it; no deductible.  What I did find out is have your doctor order the thyrogen; not the hospital.  If it comes from the hospital, you might as well add up to $10,000 to the bottom line!!!  I have blue cross blue shield and it happened immediately with no questions asked.  IF your insurance company bucks at all, call Genzyme directly.  Their number is on their website.  They have advisors that will handle your insurance company so it's no hassle to you!

Good luck!  Thyrogen is a dream!!!!!
