i have stage 4 colon cancer. undergoing chemotherapy at a university hospital. my employer is switching insurance to kaiser next month. is anyone familiar with getting treatments at kaiser? are they less aggressive with treatment? are their doctors equally competent? is their standard of care the same or inferior? do you have success stories while getting treatment at one of kaiser centers?

Kaisers treatment centers are near the very top in cancer care. I myself have never been to one but I've heard great success stories.

hang in there

My insurance also changed when I was undergoing treatment.  Have you read the new policy?  Mine stated it would continue to pay for treatment where I was at.  You may want to call them to see if they will continue to pay if you'd like to stay where you are.

ksiar Perm. actually pioneered the use of HMO's.  Yet since they have been it longer they seem to understand how early detection & treatment are key to doing well.  Yet always keep in mind they are a "for profit" company..which set it apart from say the Catholic Healthcare Institutioons (ICHI) which places above all else the patients needs vs the aamount they will have to pay or tell their shareholders because ther are none.

My husband and I have Kaiser we have never had no problems, 1st cancer from my husband was 16 yrs ago Colon Cancer and he has a reoccurance not spread to lower spine (9 cen Tumor) bone cancer were now going thru Chemo and doing repeat from 16 yrs ago but without surgery this time is not a option, but Kaiser has been great with us and their Palliative Care Medicine is great they will help you with anything that is needed for patien and family (your Dr needs to refer you to them I think)  I look up their treatments vs City of Hope Cancer foundation and they offer same treatments including Clinical Trials. Hope this helps,  God Bless!
