Before I read your posting, the highest I had even read about was 200mcs.  On this message board I haven't read above 150 mcs.  I understand yours metastisized, but did none of the ablation work?  I've seen the average being around 100-150.  Maybe your posting will attract some patients who have received higher.

How are you doing now?

I agree, that is a huge amount of Rai.  I have seen 200 at the most.  I have never heard of that before. I am also interested in how or why he had so much.  Also, not only once, but 3 times, that is crazy.  How did that feel???

Oh my, I just reread the post it was 4 times....wow.  What kind of thyroid cancer did you have, and how big?  I don't mean to be rude, I am just curious.  I hope this will be your last.  Blessings, Skylog

Wow is all I can say.  I have had 2 doses, first 183 and 2nd was 192 and was told both were very high doses.  I am a large man and so figured it was due to size.  I do not know.  I was hesitant about doing it for a 2nd time because of the radiation exposure.  I also figured if it didn't work the first time, why would it work the second.  They talked me into a second try, but I doubt if I would do anymore than that.  How can they justify 4 times with that high of an exposure?

Hi, I have just had 250 mci this past week.  I had a re-occurence.  My last dose last year was 175.  My thyca was diagnosed in 2007.  I had lymph node mets.  It is not unheard of, but just not as common.

It does sound extremely high to me, although I do know from personal experience that the suggested dosage for RAI depends on your doctors opinion. From what I've read, there are some vague guidelines used to come up with dosage, and some doctors are much more aggressive than others. But what makes me worry it a little more is the number of times you've done it. I do know that some people who are or have become resistant to iodine, which means any radioactive iodine won't be absorbed by the thyroid cancer cells... and no progress is seen. I wonder if that's your case. Could you ask your doctors about iodine-resistance? Or maybe get a second opinion? That seem like a lot of exposure to RAI. BEST OF LUCK!! Keep us posted! -Rocio

as long as the cells are taking up the iodine, and my bone marrow is not compromised  i will continue to take rai-131 .

My first dose is Monday.  I'm a 32 year old single mother of 4.  I only weight 135 lbs. so I don't think weight has anything to do with it, so much as the doc and nec medicine people.  I had 13 out of 30 effected nodes, thats why my dose is so high.  The first dose is the most important one, my doc says it does become resiliant.
