Thanks everyone for the responses and the information. I really appreciate it. An update: Had the ultrasound biopsy done last Tuesday. Two days later we get a call from the oncologist. Now, this is not our regular doctor. Our regular doctor is on vacation. This is the substitute oncologist. And she says that we need to redo the biopsy. Why? The results were negative, and given my father's past history of colon cancer and his elevated CEA number (~16), she feels it is unlikely that it's not liver cancer. She seems to feel that the doctor that did the biopsy missed the tumor tissue. But he WAS using an ultrasound, so I don't know what that means. And of course we couldn't get hold of the doc that did the procedure because of the holiday. I'm hoping these people don't drag their damn feet and make us wait another month for a second biopsy.
Now, it was also suggested that his liver might just be fatty and the spot on the ct scan and the pet scan and the ultrasound could have been just that. And as for the elevated CEA number, he was taking a new Diabetes medication that is apparently known to cause an elevation in these numbers. Add to that the fact that his liver is functioning, in the doctor's words, perfectly. Not in the high normal range, or the low normal range, all of his liver nunbers are supposed to be perfect. But it just sounds too coincidental to me, although it IS what we're all hoping for.
Again, thanks for the information and the well wishes, it is most appreciated, and I hope the best for all of you.
