Do These Medications Work Well?

I was wondering how many people have had success with these meds: Zofran, Compazine, Ativan, and the Fentanyl patch. I was given all 4 this afternoon after my first chemo infusion of Carboplatin and Taxotere. Of course they gave me anti-nausea meds before the treatment. I had a PET scan last month for pharyngeal cancer and it showed a few suspicious areas, plus now I have a new lump with pretty bad pain just below my ear (lymph node) and an ulcerous lesion in my throat. I had been taking hydrocodone sporadically but it made me dizzy and extremely tired, so I asked the Dr. if there was anything else. I just took the Compazine and will stagger that with the Zofran to keep on top of things. Any advice/experience would be appreciated!!

I had all but the fentanyl. I also had metoclopramide, and they gave me Emend when I had my cisplatin infusions. They did advise me to take the meds in rotation so that at least one of them is near full strength at any one time. The important thing is to take them before you get the nausea, just like the pain meds, it works better if you can stay ahead of it.

I have heard that smelling orange zest or taking fresh ginger helps nausea too. Maybe others will chime in on that, I never tried either,

i am alternating the zofran every 12 hours and the comprazine at 6 hours in between .  for just 2  days after my chemo   i get my chemo once a week i get carboplatin paclitaxel and cetuixmab    i think i get zofran and comprazine in my IV with my chemo also.

I dont have any nausea  just a itchy acne rash from the cetuximab (erbitux)    I also take 20 mg of dexamethasone steroids the night before  chemo  and i eat non stop right thru chemo and the next day or so.

My husband had severe nausea with chemo/rad combo and currently has only chemo and is still experiencing some nausea and vomitting. He uses Zofran every 6 hours around the clock and staggers it with phenergan as needed. When he was hospitalized he was on compazine, reglan, ativan and decadron as well. The compazine and raglan did not help much and the ativan dropped his blood pressure. It has been hard, but keep trying different things and combinations until you find one that works. The phenergan makes him tired, but if he is really nauseated it helps, so...
