Subject: Is there something to take to increase hunger?

My dad has been suffering from NSCLC with brain and eye met for over the past year and has lost a lot of weight. He is currently taking Tarceva(which he hates and goes on and off it), and is taking an anti-vomit pill to help whatever he eats stay down. The problem is that he isn't eating much of anything and i was wondering whether anyone knows if there is something he can take to increase his appetite.

Any advice please.

My husband (small cell lung cancer) is also taking Megestrol AC 40MG/M SUS and it worked practically overnight.  He has gained almost 17 # back. I'd highly recommend asking the doctor about prescribing this medicine for him.

Every medicine has potential side effects.  I guess you'll just have to weigh the odds.  They have to legally list all the potential side effects by law.

My mom takes Megacees.  It has helped her gain five lbs. :)

Our Chemo Doctor also recommended lots of little snacks thru the day if a meal is too much, and Boost (in Canada) a protien drink.

My Mother in law has NSCLC and lost 20+ lbs, but the radiation nurses put her on to a high calorie chocolate drink that helped her regain her weight.  It is Suplimed Substi-Meal, Rich Chocolate.  To order you can call:  800-223-2610...God Bless
