Regardless of the kind of pain meds my husband takes (he's tried several) unlike most people who fall asleep with narcotics, my husband can't sleep.  Has anyone experienced this.  He's still working every day, but it's getting difficult because he doesn't sleep at night.

Has anyone experienced sleeplessness due to pain meds?  We're getting desperate.  The doctor can't figure it out.

I think some people react strangely to different meds.  My husband can take a day time cold capusule and fall asleep almost after taking it. If I take one, I'm zooming for hours.  After surgery for his Melanoma - his pain meds made him loopy, but not sleepy.  I came home from lunch one day to check on him and he was standing over the stove making eggs - singing out loud and dancing around with the pan - hot grease splashing around everywhere.  His wound site was on his arm.  After witnessing that, I thought I would need some meds!    I discovered he had had a bad morning and decided to take two of the prescription (which was the indicated dosage).  I decided at that time that it would be best if I hid his meds - and gave them as needed.

Speak with his doctor. Let him know the side effects that the meds are having on him.  There is so much out there to help, there is absolutely no reason he should be suffering from lack of sleep.

Hi,

My mother has NSCLC and she was not able to sleep when receiving her radiation and chemo treatments so her doctors gave her Ambien. This sleeping pill has worked for her and she still takes it. I think the only draw back is that it might be somewhat addicting-she can't sleep without it. i hope this helps!

Ambien.  Yes my Mum was precribed that too and takes it when needed, from what i've learned low dosage only stays in system 4hrs?  She finds it helps her too.  I also notice my Mum does a lot of re-arranging things and making lots of notes, im assuming its the short term memory thing.?
