Experts?

Hi everyone.  my best friend was just diagnosed with thyroid cancer.  I was wondering if anyone knew of any "experts" on thyroid cancer that could provide me with info on the likelyhood of exposure to radiation (like holding kids when they have x-rays) causing the cancer.  Please help!  or, anyone who would be able to tell me of the liklihood of treatment causing other forms of cancer???

I was told exposures to radiation for ex. takes 5 to 10 years to cause a problem.  We are exposed to radiation in our enviornment as well.  For the most part they do not know what causes cancer except for well known carcinogens such as smoking.  Several people could be exposed to the same situation but some may develop cancer and others do not.  Genetics or a mutation or damaged DNA from exposures or age are factors.  If we knew what was responsible for our particular cancers the science community would have won half the battle in this fight.  Thyroid cancer seems to be common in young adults for some reason vs. other types such as colon, pancreatic etc.
