Hi Helen: My husband had 6 weeks of chemo and ended in April 08. He does not take any kind of blood thinner but after just a few chemo treatments his blood starting thinning. Not sure the reason but by the end of the treatments, he could get a scratch and the blood would run like water. Really weird and I wonder if that isnt one of the reason Dr.'s do not want to do surgery to give your system and your blook time to recover from the chemo. He is now scheduled for surgery on Aug. 1st at Cleveland Clinic. Good luck to you but never be afraid to ask questions of the doctor and if he doesnt have time for you, find another Dr. This is YOUR life! Judy

Hi Judy,

Good Luck On Your Husband's Surgery In August, And Thanks For The Reply On My Message. I will Have To Start Asking My Dr More Questions, But At Times, He Sort Of Brushes Me Off, And Doesn't Answer Me.Then I Wonder why He Doesn't want To Give Me Some answers. I Think This site will Be Very Helpful To Me, So Glad I Found It.Thanks Helen

Hello Helen,

I am blessed to have an oncologist who does listen and answers questions.  Even so, I still went to the states university hospital and got a second opinion from a cancer specialist.  Between the 2 doctors and all of the online research that I have done, I am convinced I am receiving the best treatment available.  If your current doctor is worth his salt, he will not object to you getting another opinion.

God Bless,

Jeff

Helen,

Remember you are paying the doc to do his job. I signed a paper at the docs office that if any of my three kids have questions they are able to call him and talk about my condition. If they are nervous, then I am nervous.

I have stage 3 colon cancer. Just  had my port put in and starting chemo next week, I write down questions and when I have l0 of them I call the  doc and ask for a return call. If he wouldn't return our calls I would find another doc who would. The calmer you are, the calmer your husband will be. A sense of humor is a good thing right now too. I believe no questions are dumb questions. That's for sure...Paula
