Hi guys

Just wondering if anyone can tell me what if any symptoms they had when there lymph gland was swollen.  My dr has found a swollen lymph gland  and keeps trying to tell me it is viral and has now put me on antibiotics but I feel fine no inflamations anywhere. Just wondering if anyone else has had the same problem.  I had a TT Oct 07 for Pap Cancer and RAI in Dec 07.

Also what does neck discetion entail??

Very stressed!!

IF the node you feel is soft and move with your finger a little then it should be benign.  I just went through a right side neck dissection.  IT was easier than the TT for sure.  4 days at home and pretty much it back to normal.  However, it really depends on the doctor and how many nodes are being dissected.  My surgery took 2 hrs roughly and i was discharged on the same day.  let me know if you need more info... good luck

Hi

You may want to get a second opinion because even if it is viral, an antibiotic won't help that because antibiotics are for bacteria, not viruses. Did your doctor do an ultrasound on it before proclaiming it viral? With a history such as yours, it might be a good idea to pursue it further. Then you can relax once you know for sure. Good luck!

Lymph nodes in the neck can be caused by many things, but I agree with response to you from Karen 321. In my own case, I had swollen lymph nodes on both sides of my neck, at my collarbone, and in my groin when I had Follicular Carcinoma the first time. A surgeon removed one and it showed pre-cancer. Then the Endo took a Fine Needle Biopsy that showed the Follicular Thyroid Cancer. After thyroid surgery, no more swollen lymph nodes. 21 years later, I got swollen lymph nodes again on both sides of my neck. Went to the Endo, and diagnosis after Thyrogen injections was Recurrence of Follicular Carcinoma. After having high dose RAI the swollen lymph nodes have disappeared again. Remember, it's Important that whoever you are being treated/followed by is a Endocrinologist, consider leting it be taken out for biopsy. Good luck. CAgirl
