I was wondering if anyone was familiar with where to go for treatment in the Ft. Lauderdale, West Palm Beach Florida area. My Dad has been on chemo at Sloan Kettering in NY and staying with us. But he and my Mom want to go back to their own house in Florida, while he is still relatively well enough. Is there an equivalent to Sloan Kettering in that area?

Call PanCan (http://www.pancan.org ) 1-877-272-6226 and ask them for recommendations.

 H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center at Tampa General Hospital is the top recommended center for Florida.

Shands in Gainesville has a good reputation as does Cleveland Clinic in Naples, but Moffitt is the top rated.

There are a few people on the The Pancreatic Cancer Support & Information eCommunity listserv -- pancreas-onc@listserv.acor.org who are PC patients and are being treated at the Palm Beach Cancer Institute.

This is a very very good listserv filled with PC patients and caregivers for PC patients. Incredibly supportive and helpful.

I hope this helps

Renata,

Get yourself logged into the listserv that I just mentioned -- I forgot to give you the Website info:   http://www.acor.org/pancreas-onc.html.

Then shoot off a note to the group. One of the people who is being treated at the PBMC is very active on the list and I know that everyone will give you contact information for doctors, etc.

Good luck. Remember, your Dad is a person, not a statistic so don't let the numbers get to you! Keep fighting. It's worth it.
