When the doc finally gives a prognosis as to life expectancy - from which point is he basing this? Is it from the time of the diagnosis? the time of starting treatment?  the time of stopping treatment.? What???

Thanks

Eileen

Ask,  One would think it he says the prognosis is some amount of time, he means from the current date.  But maybe he was talking in terms of typical prognosis of that kind of tumor which might be quoted from time of diagnosis.  Just depends on the context, so ask.

Hi:

According to the standard, the docs base the prognosis from the time symtoms are first noticed. These numbers are averages and everyone tumors are unique and each reponds differently to treatment. My wife was DXd 13 months ago and they said 6 months at that time, so that was not very accurate ??? Hope this helps....

Like the the other person who resoponded, you should ask your doc exactly what he/she is basing this on.

I'll keep you in my thoughts,

C

I think it's from time of diagnosis.

The average life expectancy for GBM is one year.

But don't let that scare you-- many people live longer-- that's just the average.

Don't give up-- and stay positive that's key.

The majority of GBM's respond well to temodar-- that's why it's become the std of care now. It can extend lives by years
