Subject: Grainy tissue in mouth?
Date: 07/09/2008

My Dad is post-radiation and chemo for squamous cell carcinoma of the neck w/single lymph node involvement. He is now experiencing grainy tissue w/appears to be coming from the inside of his throat and mouth. Has anyone ever experienced this before? He is 10 weeks post-treatment and completely miserable and unable to eat. He refuses the peg tube placement. He is also coughing up what seems to be pieces of tissue from his throat. I would appreciate any help.

Have you talked to the Dr about this? I was always told to be very careful and to tell them if my mouth/throat was sore.  Also I had some special mouthwash and used baking powder and water. Did your dad have that too?

Glow,

Thank you so much for the tip. Did your wound in your throat take a lot of time to heal? My Dad pretty much has a crater that is unhealed. Hope you are doing well and feeling better!!!!!

OhioLaurel,

Thank you for the reply! We just went to the ENT and he said there is an unhealed crater the is not healing well. Did you experience the same situation? Do you have any tips? He has the Biotene rinse and the Dr. gave him chlorahexadine gargle. I know he has tried the baking soda and water.

Thank You,

Liz
