Subject: Nodules in lung
Date: 07/11/2008
My mom was told by her oncologist about 1 1/2 months ago that they found nodules in both lungs and they are too small to consider cancerous however she has started again with chemo (Taxotere).  They are not officially calling it cancer.  They are calling them nodules instead.  Has anyone else ever been told this?

My, sister, too, has been told she has nodules in her lungs.  They aren't calling it cancer either.  She's been told that it's too early to do anything about it since the nodules are so small.  She also had nodules in her thyroid gland and that was benign (not cancerous).  So, I guess I'm surprised that they have your mother on chemo.  I'll be interested in tracking this and reading other replies so we can both learn together.  Good luck to you.  f

I may be wrong, but I thought nodules and tumors were the same thing.

I have had the thing in my lung called a nodule and a tumor.

Why is she taking chemo?  Have they done a biopsy?

I wouldn't take chemo unless my nodules were malignant.

I had a CAT scan needle bioposy.  It is not painful, but you have to

lay still for about 15-20 min and breath a certain way when the Dr.

does the biopsy.

It should be proven that she has cancer before she has chemo.

Chemo kills good cells along with the cancer cells, so she would not

want to kill the good cells unless she has a proven cancer.. Go to

an oncologist to discuss this.

My mom was originally diagnosed with an unknown primary - stage 4 about 3 1/2 years ago. It all started when she had a pericardial effusion and they found cancerous cells in the fluid around the heart. They told her she has 3 months to live. They could not find the primary tumor but there was a very small spot (too small to measure) in her lung that shrunk after receiving chemo. She went into remission for 3 years.

In June 2008 she had a x-ray that showed small nodules (I think all are under 5mm) in both lungs. The SUV (standard uptake unit) is 2.5. They told her at 4 they would consider it cancerous but with her history that she should have chemo (Taxotere). Mom is feeling great and has a great attitude. She is amazing.
