I just posted this message on another part of the board, as this subject was mentioned on that board. This will indeed be the 3rd time I've expressed this opinion, and I possibly am going to get some flack by some people for posting it again here, but I'm willing to risk it, because I am extremely concerned about this method of treatment.
I am a huge advocate of alternative therapies - I rarely speak out against an alternative therapy, but I REALLY am concerned about the safety of this treatment.
So here's what I had to say in that other message:
Baking
soda could well be an effective remedy for treating cancer - there are
SO many ways to cause cancer cell death - who knows, baking soda could
be of value. BUT BAKING SODA TREATMENT ALWAYS
NEEDS TO BE DONE UNDER A PHYSICIAN'S SUPERVISION!!!!! Yes, I'm
shouting - I apologize - I hate it when people are abusive or rude -
but I really want to make this point.
Sodium bicarbonate (the
chemical name for baking soda): needed by our bodies to maintain a
healthy acid/base, respiratory/metabolic balance. Sodium bicarbonate:
a basic emergency medication used to keep people from cardiac arrest.
Sodium bicarbonate: also for many years the main active ingredient in
antacids. But over-ingestion of sodium bicarbonate either as baking
soda or antacids, or inadvertant IV overdose, can cause acid/base
imbalance, respiratory/metabolic impairment, organ dysfunction and
failure, and even death. The last doesn't happen often, thank the
universe, but it can and unfortunately does happen.
Sure, a
little bit of baking soda, taken occasionally as antacid, used to
brush the teeth, swallowed once or twice a day in a glass of water as a
time-limited health regimen, probably not going to harm people, can do
some good. But taken in the amounts necessary for treatment of cancer,
ya really, really, really gotta be careful. A little is ok - but just a little too
much can be very, very, very dangerous. When it's being taken by
mouth, in large amounts (I'm talking about more than a teaspoon a day) or very frequently (I'm talking about more than 3 or 4 days in a row), it's very hard to know
when is enough, and when it's just a little too much, risking the
chance of problems.
Sodium bicarbonate - baking soda - given
by injection is also being used to treat cancer. And from what is being said of Dr Simoncini's methods, he's seeing positive results. But it's very important to understand that sodium bicarbonate therapy - oral of by injection, has
to be ordered and monitored by a physician, and for a very good
reason. Absolutely crucial to monitor bloodwork and signs and symptoms,
keep track of what effect that sodium bicarbonate is having on the
kidneys and lungs, and heart. Even with physician support, too much
sodium bicarbonate can unintentionally be given by IV, and can cause
some serious problems.
So please, anyone considering any
type of baking soda alternative therapy - check it out as thoroughly as
you can, and don't attempt it without a dr's supervision. And do the
best you can to assure that the physician has a good track record with
treatment, and has ready access to emergency treatment should something
go wrong.
Sorry if I'm harsh, or
seeming to be unnecessarily critical. I don't mean to be that way - I
hate it when people nay-say complementary and alternative therapies, but as a former nurse, this is one alternative treatment that I really strongly believe should be undertaken with extreme caution, if at all.
Sincerely,
Tre
