I'm new to this web site. My name is Michele. I was just told after haveing a colposcopy that I have alot of abnormal cells. High grade ones on the outer layer of the cervix, and the inner cervix looks great. I have a leep scheduled at the end of Sep. Isn't this to long to wait for? I read in a matter of months or even years(which is better) that this most likely will go into cancer if not treated immediately. Does anyone know how long it can take to form? Thanks so much.

Michelle, I know that this sounds like a long time. When I too was told that I had to have a leep done on me that I would have to wait a while as well. Do not fear. I was told that the reason for this is that they have to wait for you to have your next monthly or risk infection. THat is something that we all do not wish for. Do not fear the surgery I had absolutely no problem with it. I can tell you that it was better than the cold knife conization. With that one I was knocked out longer and I had to take more time off work. I also had more pain. The biopsies were the worst for me. Just make sure that your doctor gives you some good motrin or ibuprofin for after the surgery. Mine was 800mg it worked wonders. As for the length that might also be the first time that they had an opening at the surgery center. Lets hope that everything turns out ok and you dont have to go in for the conization like I did. I wish you the best of luck and my prayers are with you. Heather

Subject: Waiting For a Leep...

I wouldn't be scared about the LEEP, however the waiting concerns me. I am only 20, and I had had normal paps for 6 years. This December they said they were abnormal so I came back for another pap because sometimes it goes away on its own. It came back abnormal again, so I scheduled a colposcopy to further investigate. By the time I got my appt. and results back it was only 5 months later and it has been confirmed I had cervical cancer. It is unusual for it to turn to cancer so fast, but luckily it was still stage 1B so they were able to remove it with a LEEP. I got a leep last monday and it was completely painless. They put me out and I don't remember a thing. Just mild cramping after. I will find out on Thursday at Post op if the got it all. Try not to worry urself because luckily this is very treatable and its very unlikely that you won't fully recover. GOOD LUCK SWEETIE!

Thank you Heather for your thoughtful words. O.k. I'll try not to worry anymore. One thing I've been thinking about lately is, do you think I should go get another colposcopy done before the LEEP just to see if things got better? I don't know, that's been going though my mind lately. Because I was on my period during the one I had. Also, I heard things can change to the better in time from your own immune system. What do think about those thoughts?

Wow, only 5 months later it turned on you? Was it high grade you had? Or low before it turned. I do think about that from time to time. But what I'm thinking about is getting another colposcopy to see if things changed or what. Do you know, do they check during from the LEEP if it may have turned to cancer or worse? Or do they just take the bad part and check to see if they got it all.

I was wondering what you found out about your LEEP biopsy, did they get it all? All of the cancer? I hope the news was good. Let me know.
