Help! Have a question about a very foal smell. Seems to be coming from my stomach after surgery. My surgery was Jan 26 2008. The odor is from gas sometimes just breathing. I asked my doctor MD he says I should go see the surgeon. Just wondoring if this is a side effect from the surgeory?

Does anyone else have this?

Thanks again for all your help

Don't know about you, but my grandchildren tell me:  "Grandma, your breath is "awful".  In my case, the tumor was at the base of eso and top of stom so they had to take out the valve that keeps stomach contents in.  I think that does affect my breath so I am using more mouthwash, mints, and try to stay upright a lot and keep acid reflux under control so the contents don't come up as bad.   Your surgery wasn't that long ago, so maybe peristolasis (muscle action to keep contents in the stomach) is not up to speed yet.

Let us know what your surgeon says.

My husband has EC and has terrible breath from frequent belching, burping.  Our 3-year-old foster daughter says "Guncle, you stink!"  I think it is from the cancer itself.  His is mid esophagus and has a deep necrotic base.  That alone would produce a foul odor.  I would imagine that a surgical patient would possibly have some of the gas smell as well as digestive juices, etc. from the stomach itself.  My husband's prognosis is 6 mos to 1 year.  Any opinions on that.  He has Stage IV T4N2M1.  Thanks in advance.

My husband started to smell like sewage when he burped in December. A few weeks later he had emergency surgery. There was a blockage and his small intestine had worked it's way up into his chest cavity. Seems like this happens sometimes after surgery and might be related to gastric pullup, things like radiation damage to tissue or longer term chemo damage. If MD said to see the surgeon, I would be calling the surgeon.
