Subject: Q about regulating synthroid dose
Date: 07/16/2008

Hi there, had TT in Feb 08 (actually 2 surgeries as left lobe was removed first).  I was diagnosed with multi-focal papillary cancer.  It had not spread to the lymph nodes.  I had RAI on May 15.  Since the surgery, they have been continually increasing my synthroid and am now on 175 mcg.  My last TSH before the increase to 175 was 7.85.  I was recently at a conference on thyroid cancer and a fellow patient said that her cancer came back and they knew because they couldn't regulate her levels.  She was larger than me and was on a dose of 100 mcg.  I'm a small-framed female and weigh 120 lbs, should I be concerned.  Is 175 quite a high dose?  I go for blood again in August.

thanks in advance.

I take 150mcg of name brand Synthroid.  I am 5 feet and weigh from 120-130.  My oncologist told me nothing about the requirements involved when taking it.   Are you aware of the "do's and don'ts"  when taking Synthroid and that you need Name Brand- generic is not acceptable due to different absorption rates, etc. Do you have an endocrinologist?

I was diagnosed on 10/18/07 and  first surgery was 11/8/07 and my next surgery is Monday 7/28/08
