newly diagnosed at 35yo with radical hysterectomy

Hi all...I'm grateful for this board.  I had cryo 10 years ago because of abnormal pap.  I then had 2 children.  Now I had a pap on June 21 and was referred to a gyne/onc for a colposcopy and biopsy.  She did that and said that due to the results "moderately invasive carcinoma" I should have a radical hysterectomy with removal of lymph nodes and "probably" no addition treatment.  My questions are this:  Has anyone ever heard of the hysterectomy with lymph node removal in a case like this?  Does anyone know any GREAT gyn/onc in the Chicago area?  Does anyone know of any holistic help that I can start on?  I will have the surgery anyway...but I am just not certain about the lymph removal or is this just standard practice?  I have a call into the dr. and the clinic, but seems really agressive (maybe it should be?)  I am 35 yo and don't care about the removal of the uterus...I am keeping my ovaries.

I have recently been diagnosed with cervical cancer stage 1b1 and the recommended treatment for that is radical hysterectomy with lymph node dissection.  I am meeting with the gyn-oncologist in 3 weeks to determine if I am in good enough shape for the surgery ..... I am overweight, unfortunately.  If the surgeon determines that I haven't lost enough weight, I'll receive internal/external radiation instead.  It has been presented to me that they have equally good results for my stage, but I am opting for surgery if possible.

I was diagnosed at 34 with stage 1b1 adenocarcinoma and the first oncologist recommended a radical hysterectomy with lymph node removal.  I did go to a second oncologist and found that I was a candidate for a trachelectomy with lymph node removal.  Basically, the difference is that with a trach, your cervix is removed but you retain your uterus so that you can still have children.  I had my surgery almost a year and a half ago.  I would strongly encourage everyone to always seek a second opinion.  As far as is a hysterectomy standard for "invasive cancer"..I think it depends on what stage you are diagnosed with.  However, all the research I have done does steer one towards a hysterectomy, or lately, a trach.

Good luck and take care!
