Subject: Extreme Pain after Radiation on Metastisized PC in Spine

Hi,

My father just went through a round of 20 sessions of radiation on his spine and shoulder from metastisized prostate cancer. He has a morphine pump in his back and is also on pain killers. He is still in unbearable pain. His pain management doctor has given him supplementes, anti-depressants and pain killers and the morphine. Is this is a normal side effect of radiation? Will it get better with time as I have read?

Also, he was on Casodex and Lupron. A month and a half ago they said that the Casodex isnt' working anymore as his PSA went back up from .5 to 70. The doctor prescribed him Tafenil and Lupron. He also just got his first injection of Zometa.  Does anyone have any experience with Tafenil? WIll it help? I am extremely scared and sad. The doctors say it is agressive- he was fine 2 months ago and has now started to go downhill. I am expecting the first grandchild in 2 and a half months and want my dad to feel better. I wont travel to Mexico (where he lives) until Christmas to see him.

What else can we do? Are we missing anything? Please help as I am incredibly upset.
