Subject: Hip Pain Associated with Temodar...maybe???

Just wondering if anyone has experienced hip pain, while on on Temodar.  My husband has been off decadron since Jan. 08.  He's currently on CPT-11/Avastin along with Temodar (5/23).  He's had hip pain before, while he was on steroids, but he says this is not the same feeling.  It's his left hip; not the joint.  He didn't experience this pain while just taking CPT-11/Avastin, but since adding Temodar, it's been bothering him.  We're just wondering if it could be caused by the Temodar or maybe it's the combo.  ????? Who knows, until we visit with the doc. next week to talk with him.

I don't know if Temodar side effects include joint/bone pain, but the steroids can have a lasting effect and the pain, while it might feel different, could be further progression of complications for the steroids. Blood clots can be common in the legs of brain tumor patients, this can be serious, and they cause real pain as well. Only your doctor can determine what is causing the pain. A friend of mine (from a BT support group) has dealt with both issues quite a bit, and does lots of Physical therapy and Occupational therapy, acupuncture, swim/water exercise, etc.. etc.. to combat these side effects. All the best to you.

Hi,

Sometimes steroid may diminish the blood supply to femral head. Other things like degenerative changes, synovitis, focal osteoporosis, tumor spread (although less likely) may cause the similar problem. Ideally your provider should be aware  of the problem.

On top of the already mentioned possibilities, there is such a thing as chemo-induced arthritis.  For a while my mom was getting it in her hands, wrists, and arms.  It seemed associated with her Temodar rounds.  You can "google" it and find other sources/discussions regarding this.
