Subject: Temodar & Zofran - do you get headaches?
Date: 07/22/2008

Hello All,

My wife has just completed her 4th month of Temodar & Zofran.  (Anaplastic Astrocytoma 3, surgery, radiation with Temodar and now Temodar)

She completed the 5 day treatment four days ago, and has been suffering with an on and off headache since the last few days of the treatment.

The paperwork says both drugs can cause headaches, does anyone else here get them?  Do they last for several days after you stop taking the drugs? Are they constant or on and off?  Do you take or do anything to help them?

 Thanks Everyone!

I had a GBM and yes, I had headaches from both the Temador and Zofran. The Zofran caused headaches in the morning; I took it one hour before the Temador before going to bed. I know that I experienced headaches off and on for many months after surgery and radiation/chemo. I took Tylenol and that took the headaches away. I am no longer taking Temador because it stopped working. I am now taking other meds for a clinical trial that are not chemo. I do not experience headaches with these.

Good luck and hang in there,

Denise

My wife (also dx. AAIII) gets occasional headaches that her doctor says are normal. She just completed round 9 of Temodar w/ Zofran and she takes Keppra everyday. All of these medicines can cause headache. Additionally, she gets a "hot head" feeling, sort of like a fever or a flushing sensation, only during her Temodar cycle. All the best to you.

I have a gbm-iv.in my fourth round of cycle,440mg chemo. I quess i have been fortunate, not one side effect since surgery.tiredness,yes,headaches,no.   I was told headaches were caused by swelling, and i take steroids for that.

Jeff and Brenda,

My son Taylor is no longer on Temodar.  However he is still takes Zofram via IV when he gets his chemo treatment every two weeks.

He never complained of headaches while taking either of these.  He states the Zofram doesn't work for him.  We still carry the 8mg pill around with us.  I sometimes think he got use to having headaches and this is why he never complains about them.

Taylor is currently in the hospital and we asked to try another drug called Fenergrin (poor spelling) for the nausea.  Maybe you could ask the doctor about this one.  It seems to work for him.

Patty (mom to Taylor)

I would also advise you to ask your oncologist about taking decadron (aka dexamethasone) when you have headaches. It reduces brain swelling.

Kytrill is another anti-nausea medication that can be used instead of zofran.
