Can someone give me some numbers regarding where blood levels T3,T4 AND TSH should be at following thyroid cancer. I am not exactly sure what  my endo is shooting for. As always thanks for the help.

I have the same questions as my TG after one month following RAI was high, my TSH was only .32 and my endo wants it lower.  He wasn't concerned about my TG since I had just had RAI.  But it doesn't seem to agree with what others are told.  I followed a link given by others on this site a few months ago and copied off an explanation of the thyroid numbers.  It helps, but it's more for those with their thyroid.  All of my numbers are in the normal range; per standards.  But are they supposed to be when you don't have a thyroid?  Your TG would then be ok with a higher count.  I go back to my endo with a new blood test in August.  I'm going to drill him for a further explanation!  It will be interesting what others have to say!

I was told that TSH is a hormone given off by the pituitary gland which regulates the thyroid or tells the thyroid to work so we would want our TSH levels to be low in order not to stimulate any tissue.  That is why when we are going hypo the TSH is stimulated to see if it activates any thyroid tissue that may be there.  The thyroglobulin should be undetectable if the total thyroid is removed and RAI was done.  I'm not sure what role T4 plays with no thyroid.  Hope this helps.

Go to these two websites for more information.  My only remaining question is are these number ranging still considered normal for those of us without thyroids?  But it's a guide anyway! :)

Hope this helps alittle!

Donna - please let us know what your doctor says about what levels should be and share the info with us!  There are so many of us that don't understand the numbers and I don't hear much from my endo except "they are a little high" or "too low."  I don't want to play with cancer.  I have 'tall cell' which is more aggressive.  Good luck!  Tara

I definitely will.  It's going to be several weeks as my blood test is the 14th and my appt is the next week.  I'm going to try to write down his explanations.
