Hi, my dad was diagnosed with rectal cancer and mets to the liver in Feb 08.  They started him on Xeloda and Oxilaplatin which we thought was working.  His CEA started at 1400 and got down to 158.  On his 6th treatment he had a reaction to Oxilaplatin and his CEA started going back up.  At that same time they found mets in the bones.  His Oncologist said even though his CEA went way down the tumors didn't shrink very much.  He is wanting to put him on irinotecan and erbitux.  I asked about the HAI pump and he recommended trying hepatic artery emobilization if he is a candidate.  We found out today that because his liver tumors are very large that he may not be a candidate.  His oncologist also said he's not sure if there is anything he can do for him.  We have contacted MD Anderson but it will take at least a month and a half to get in there.  I feel helpless and just wondered if anyone has any suggestions on treatment centers that we could get into quickly.  I just don't want to accept that there is nothing they can do for him.  Thanks for your help!

Dear Katie There is always hope. My wife has bowl cancer with mets to liver, pelvis. We have done the oxali (six cycles) is about all she could handle. She did respond well and the spread did stop. But our oncologist just said we wait now till its return. "Not good enough"!! As we speak we are in mexico at the Issels centre. www.issels.com. we arrived last monday and started on ozone, b17 and is having juicing 5 times a day. With a complete organic diet. She is also having her blood "cleaned" and they culture a vaccine from her own bodies immune system. We are going to be here for 29 days. (less the 4 already) last week before we left the uk there was an article in the Telegraph front page about trials on Immunotherapy in the uk with fantastic results. They are doing the same here at Issels but have 20 years experience. There is a lady in the next room to us that is near the end of her stay here. She arrived hardly able to walk or breathe and today she was down at lunch and going for a walk to the beach. This is the path we have chosen, we had chemo, now we are trying this. I hope this helped. Feel free to send message
