High white count

My  mother was admitted to the hospital last night after becoming increasingly weak over the past few weeks to the point of not being able to walk.  All of her vitals are good.  She has been vomiting for two days now and just feeling awful.  They found she has a high white count and have looked for infection but think she would have had a fever with infection. Other than the weakness, the only other symptoms are a bloated abdomen and some dull pain.  She just completed radiation about 2 weeks ago.  She has been on chemo for 1 1/2 years.  Also, for some reason her ocologist put her on prednisone Monday which we have been told can also raise the white count.  Has anyone had anything similar?

Really don't want to scare or worry you more that I can imagine you already are. But, Have they checked for chemo-induced Leukemia?

My cell counts weren't high(they can be high or low), just couldn't keep them up even with shots. Through a recent accidental discovery, I have been diagnosed with chemo-induced Leukemia. I was on chemo for just over 2 years. You might want to ask then to check.
