Subject: No taste whatsoever after RAI

I know this discussion has been had time and time again on this board, but I just want to hear one more reassurance!  I had my RAI, 100mCi, Friday July 18.  About 3 or 4 days after I started to lose my sense of taste, I could taste strong tastes, but not weaker ones.  Within the week, it was totally gone.  I taste nothing at all.  Not even a hint of flavor in anything.  I even played with wasabi, fireball candies, wine, anything with a strong flavor and nothing at all.  All liquids taste like water, all foods are like chewing air.  That is the only RAI side effect at all it seems.  I've got plenty of hypo issues, but as for the RAI, that's it.  For those of you who've had taste issues, how long did they last?  Did anyone have it like this, where there is no taste at all?  Did you eventually get it back the way it was?  I just want someone out there to say it happened to them like this, but it all ended up totally fine!

I can't say that my taste buds were completely gone, but it was close.  I had 125mc and it started about a week after RAI and lasted for three full weeks.  Hang in there, it will get better!

3 weeks isn't too bad!  It's been a week so far and I'm being about as patient as I can be.  Tonight is my hubby's birthday and we are going to one of my fave restaurants, this stinks!

Hi!  Me too....I had 150m and lost all taste (except vinegar....go figure) for about a month.  It came back pretty slowly over the next few weeks, but it did go away!       SUE

I had the RAI last August and about a week later I lost most all of my sense of taste.  I just hated it.  It lasted about four weeks for me. Once it started to come back it came back quickly.  After that month everything went back to normal.  I too was scared that I would never taste things again.   It is fine now so please don't worry (easy to say, right?).  :-)

I had 100 also and lost my taste buds exactly one week to the day of RAI.  Within a day everything tasted like metallic hydrogen peroxide.  Unfortunately it lasted for 6 weeks but they came back so gradually I just noticed one day that everything tasted good!

I found out the day I got my WBS and all was good.  My husband took us out for dinner to celebrate no more LID.  I ordered my favorite meal at Duffy's and complained that it tasted horrible.  My daughter tasted it and said it was delicious.  OOPS...I knew what that meant!  So much for the celebration.  I just had to celebrate again 6 weeks later!  I've been celebrating my recovery ever since!

Relax, it should come back fine with time and patience.....

I did not see this thread, just posted a similar one. I had RAI yesterday and today my taste buds are almost gone. Thai food had no taste and it is usually brimming with flavor. I had 100 microcuries....sorry to see that it may get worse but glad to see it is temporary.

I am finally starting to notice a little bit of taste in some things.  It isn't consistent, though.  I can't wait to be back to normal!
