MY MOM LESS THAN 6 WEEKS TO LIVE

Just this past July 3, 2008, my mom was diagnosed with metastatis liver cancer, while the primary was in the pancreas and bile ducts.  We had no prior symptoms with the exceptions of no appetite and some minor stomach pain.  The cancer was diagnosed already as stage 4.  After some tests this month, the doctors have given my mom less than 6 weeks to live.  Just 6 weeks ago she was at the beach with us enjoying Fathers Day Weekend.  As of today the doctor told me she has 2-3 weeks left. After researching the internet, I mentioned several ideas for treatment for her but the doctors said everything I mentioned was not not possible.  I just can't believe that there is nothing anyone can do. There has to be something!!! No transplant, no surgery resection, no chemo embolization, nothing, they say nothing will help.  They even told me there is no sense in trying chemo, that it would only make her more ill for the remaining weeks she has left.  Please if anyone knows of anything that may have worked just to get more time, please tell me.  This is all happening too fast!!! 6 weeks ago my mom was at the beach enjoying life and working her everyday job at a local hospital as a nurse.  How does this just happen and why???  PLEASE ANY INFO ASAP WILL HELP.

I feel so helpless because I do not know  what to tell you.  To receive such hopeless news from your doctors must be unbearable for you and for your mother.  I just hope that somebody read your message and you can get some help.

Do you live anywhere close to Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale as there is a Radation doctor that deals with this and maybe able to help with getting your mom a little more time, a second opinion may help. A lot more info is needed as to size location, excetra. He is an specialist and has many years experiance. Like I said not a cure but maybe more time. His name is Dr. Gunderson. Good luck and I am so sorry to hear of your news as my dad too is on short time with Kidney cancer. I hope that you all can have more time with your mom. You are in my prayers.

When a native gets hexed by the voodoo queen he will die because he believes . Here we believe in the doctor! It sounds crazy but you need to slow down time. She must be in a stress free environment.  Help her  live her dream. No-holds-bared. ....Mean-while, "back on the ranch" your keeping your stress quiet thinking of what to do. You must keep her nurished and hydrated. A steak dinner takes too much energy to digest so I recomend beef juice. It is made by taking puting lean beef in a gar then putting the closed jar in water and boiling it for two hours. Pour the liquid out and discard the rest (It's worthless). Feel free to spice it to taste. Carrot juice is loaded with vitimans and will help keep her hydrated. Most of us so-called healthy people are dehydrated and it gets us in trouble later in life. If she takes to this and gets strong enough for chemo she will need the right vitimin protocall. Read "Beating Cancer with Nutrition" and contact different alternative treatment clinics and see what they recomend.

I am very sorry to hear about your mother.  My mother was also given 6 weeks to live when her 4th different chemo regimen had not worked and that was a clinical trial.  This was Small Cell Lung Cancer which had metastacized to the liver.  She lived for one year after it went to the liver but was on two different clinical trials. The cancer you mom has is completely different so I am not sure what could be tried.  I would go to clinicaltrials.gov and do several searches using the types of cancer she has.  If you see anything that might apply, get on the phone.  Different research facilities such as NIH in Bethesda and Hopkins have offshoots of the publicized clinical trials as well.   My mom participated in one at NIH that wasn't yet listed on clinicaltrials.gov but I found out about it by making so many calls to NIH and seeing what she would qualify for.  We had a wonderful experience with the staff of NIH in Bethesda, so if you are anywhere near there, I would give them a call.  I would also look into herbal/homeopathic remedies.  My mom's oncology nurse knew of a good one but it was too late for us to get try that since she was having so much trouble getting anything down foodwise.  There is some research does show that there are some foods which are more likely to inhibit or promote cancer growth but you have to watch out for the quacks in the business.

If they are recommending no treatment, it could be due to your mom's age, current state of health (platelet count, hemoglobin, etc) or your mom's bloodwork that could be showing elevated liver enymes, etc that could suggest the cancer has progressed too far.

For you, I would recommend the books FInal Gifts and Crossing the Creek so that you can be familiar with symptoms and know what to expect.  FInal Gifts is available in any bookstore but Crossing the Creek is available at various hospices and also by doing an internet search.  It is very specific about what to expect and it was extremely helpful to me.

My mom passed away on June 14 2008 so this is all very recent for me.  If I can help answer any questions, please send me a private message.  I am thinking of you today.

so sorry to hear of your mom. but rest assure that God has the last say. drs are instruments of God i was diagnosed with a rare form of liver ca in 06,a few weeks ago brain ca. i was diagnosed stage 4 liver,i n  06a friend of mind that i met in 06 had been diag with lung and brain ca and given 6 months to live, went through chemo, and radiation and it will be 4yrs next year and she is still here. she started in on with my drs consent on l glutamine and reisha mushroom caps. all of my help cometh from the Lord who made heave and earth. then the herbs helped me get through chemo, i am now on xeloda and tykerb b/c the herceptin no longer was working, its like an antibiotic runs its course and a diff treatm has to happen. also i have had cyberknfe for the brain.i have a very positive attitude and a very strong belief in God. i too would seek another opinion because as long as there is life there is always a chance. they have meds to help with the side effects of treatment. its worth a try if your mothers condition is strong enough even for a mild form of chemo just to see. in the mean time she should claim healing from the Lord. i have never  claimed any of this, as you see i say diagnosed with not that i have it. also here is a book she should read by joel olsteens mother, healed of cancer book and also the free cds called Gods will to live by keith moore ministries. here is thenumber 1 417 334 9233.  this is free to anyone. i will  put you and your family pn my prayer list. good music, praise and worship and being around positive people and enviorments like church would be great. i am doing very well and i want to encourage your mother. if you like to talk to me let me know. may God bless. remem "i am the Lord thy God that heals thee"  get her to say this verse often. everyone on this site are in my prayers. you are not alone
