My wife has just completed her sixth cycle of Avastin and Gemzar for recurrent Ovarian Cancer. She will get her CT scans on Monday to compare the situation to her initial and mid treatment scans.
She tolerated the Avastin very well. Her doctor is very pleased with her progress under this regime.
I will post information after she meets with her doctor to review the scans.
I should report that she was on IV vitamin C for about eight months between her initial treatment and the discovery oof recurring disease. I think the vitamin C strengthend her immune system and helped her tolerate the treatment without the side effects she suffered during her initial chemo ans surgery. She took carboplatin in the first treatment and she was extremely ill. This time she was almost normal throughout the six months of treatment. Good appetitie and only minimal discomfort.
Avastin carries a number of warnings, but she experienced none of them.I just read a study that suggests people treated with Avastin and a carbo drug experience longer progression free periods.
I hope this hellps you.
