i am a stage 4 colon rectal cnacer patient. i am a 52 yer old male who had almost perfect health and lived a fabulous life up to this point. my cancer has spread to my liver (85%) lungs and lymphs. i was diagnosed in december 8 months ago.i have been doing chemo treatments every other week. a total of 14 devasating treatments ... i get my treatment and i pump chemo in my mediport for the following 2 days. it is miserable because i have 6 to 7 terrible days and 7 good days and than i repeat it again. i am a patient at md anderson in houston and i reside in lafayette louisiana. the life style i once had is gone but new life grows from the ashes.  life is miserable during those poor days and because i am not able to work and life is boring. i am going to substitute teach at the high school  and fortunately since i am an engineer this process is easy. family friends and people in general are what help keep life moving... but in reality i am in control of how my life proceeds. i am researching alternative treatments because i intend on beating this cancer. i am experimenting with other drugs to make my poor days more productive and satisfying. i have been on adderall rx for 3 days  so i can not give a comments on its viability. please contact me should you want to communicate.enjoy the olympics... god bless you all...david

Hi David - Sorry to hear about your situation.   You have a great outlook and attitude.  I just finished infused chemo the 1st of June for stage 3a colon cancer and I have been fighting it for 3 years.  I had a recurrence last September and a result of oral chemo( Xeloda) and radiation for 35 days, it was destroyed (5cm in the pelvic area.) Two major surgeries, radiation, 3 chemos, many tests, scans many many doctors visits, etc.  It has not been fun but I have wrapped my family and friends around me and prayed & fiought like hell.  My last two PET scans show no mets or tumors.  No evidence of disease after 3 years!!  Part time teaching sounds like a great idea - it will help keep your mind off of your treatment.  What does the remainder of your treatment plan look like?  There are folks on this board on alternatives to help aid the process (Shemay is very good.)  Let us know how you are doing - stay with the board here - they are wonderfull!

arnold..thanks ... i will continue chemo forever... the cancer is nonoperable so i have to do this regiment forever... thats the difficult pill to swallow...every other week... thats why im starting to look into alternatives because i cant do what im doing forever. there are so many alternatives  but it takes studying it to find the one that will work and the legitimate treatments... currently im investigating the vitamin therapy that injects mega vitamins in ur mediport twice a week...im meeting tuesday with a women who had stage 2 breast cancer 7 years ago amnd swears by it...hang in there... have you seen the movie lorenzos oil....anything is possible....keep your head high...david

I am not an Oncologist or a surgeon David so I can't comment on the duration of your chemo treatment.  However, I am big on prayer and positive thinking.  We never know - there could be a miracle around the corner for you as there has been for many, many others.  There is a story about a man who was stranded in the middle of the ocean in a sailboat and there hadn't been any discernable wind for days.  He kept his sails up 24/7 to make sure he could catch it when it became available.  Keep smiling and keep your sails up my friend - the "winds" could come tomorrow!

Hi David

I've been reading some positive remarks regarding intravenous vitamin C on this forum so I asked about it last week when I went to the Cancer Treatment Center of America in Zion, IL.  I was told by their naturopathic that they are currently doing trials on it but only after conventional treatments are no longer considered effective.  I have nothing but praise for CTCA and believe that anything they do will be for the benefit of the patient.  I love Arnold's analogy about keeping your sails up - so true because you never know when the wind will materialize - especially when God is controlling the wind.  Please keep us informed as to how you are doing.

Aronld, My parents are sailors, they had to leave their boat in spain and fly home to me when I fell ill. I love the story you posted, will pass it on to them too. Cheers Mihalo

David

That's great - please let me know how your meeting turns out.  I have been researching this therapy for a friend who has pancreatic cancer met to other areas now.  He is on his last conventional treatment option.
