Hi,
I had lobectomy and am now cancer free - it was caught early and I haven't had any treatments. Certainly am bless so far.
But I'd like to keep it that way and need to up my immune system to keep the beast away and avoid more cavities.
I'm taking alpha lipoic acid, a Vitamin D-3 supplement by Source Naturals with contains many supplements, a Kal brand body defense antioxidant supplement which also contains lipoic and lycopene, and a big dose of resveratrol. -- can't get enough in wine alone!
I'm eating more berries and broccoli and trying to cut out junk foods. That's kind of difficult, but I'm doing it little by little. Mostly chips, etc. are my weakness.
Can anyone suggest if I'm taking the wrong stuff, what I should take to avoid recurring lung cancer - or any type? I've always felt so good that it's hard to believe my immune system is shot. I haven't had a cold or been sick in ages. Then lung cancer comes along. Devastating and scary, but thankful I'm doing so well now. Just want to keep it that way.
Thanks for any help.

Hi Jacquelyn,
Every body's body chemistry is unique, so Shemay's suggestion that you consult a naturopathic professional is excellent advice.
However, if you are like me and either do not have access to a professional, or cannot afford a professional, you will most likely have to punt. ( I hope you are an American football fan - otherwise I'm not sure I can explain what I just said!)
What you are doing actually sounds pretty good - if you cover just a few more bases I think you will be in really good shape.
I looked at the link Shemay sent you about Vitamin C and ascorbate - certainly can't argue with the science presented there. If you are not able to supplement with the very high doses recommended on those sites, then supplement with the highest does you can - it will still work to your benefit, especially when you are including foods in your diet that are high in vitamin c, ascorbate, and another thing that isn't mentioned (at least I don't think it is) in these articles, citric acid.
As for supplementing with antioxidants - catechols, polyphenols, flavinoids, OPC's, etc, and resveratrol, if you are not supplementing with grape seed extract also, I would add that to your regimen. You can actually get grape seed extract with resveratrol added - save a little money buying them together rather than seperately. as for the wine, I would continue with 3-4 oz of red wine daily even tho taking the resveratrol - there are other helpful micro-ingredients in the wine tannins that you will not get with your resveratrol or grape seed extracts - every little bit helps. I eat 1 - 2 ounces of organic dark chocolate (needs to be 70% or higher cacao content) every evening with my red wine - helps alleviate the bitterness and dark chocolate is of itself a powerful cancer fighter and preventative, not to mention being a wonderful reward for having been a good girl thru-out the day! (and contrary to popular belief, dark chocolate is NOT fattening. It actually helps to boost metabolism.)

This site gives an introductory list of the best foods for fighting cancer - it also talks about chocolate, and pay attention to the information on garlic. (I take 1500mg garlic gelcap every day.)

The Anello Clinic website talks about another very important supplement: selenium. http://www.anelloclinic.com/healthinfo/index.html
Selenium is probably the most under-recognized necessity for fighting cancer. Many of the other natural cancer fighters are dependent on the adequate presence of selenium to work, and in today's highly industrialized world, most people just aren't getting enough selenium in their diet to do them any good. (Simplified explanation: Primary source of selenium is the soil, with red meat coming in 2nd. with fewer and fewer cows being grass fed, and more and more crops are being genetically engineered and grown using commercial fertilizers and getting less and less from the actual soil - red meat just isn't providing as much selenium as it used to, nor are whole grains or fruits and vegetables.) The most common recommendation for selenium supplement to combat cancer is 200 mcg/day.
A lot of clinics that offer information on basic supplementation advise increasing intake of vitamin E. Some recommend as much as 1000 iu/day. If you eat a lot of animal protein you probably don't need to supplement that much, but you might consider adding at least 100 - 200 iu /day.
Zinc 50 mg/day - extremely powerful immune system booster. My 99 year old grandma has taken zinc every day for the last 30 years, and she's had 1 respiratory and 1 stomach ailment in all that time (and we think the stomach problem was food poisoning rather than the flu.)
Unless you have reason for fluid restriction, drink as much fresh pure water as you can, optimally 80 - 100 ounces a day. All of the stuff you are doing already, and all the stuff you might add to your regimen, causes release of toxins into the body, and our cells/bloodstream has to get rid of them in order for us to be healthy. Water is the very best detoxifier, and it is absolutely necessary for metabolic and immune system support. Steam-distilled water is about 99.4% pure - not too many bottled waters that can truthfully boast kind of purity. I purchased my own steam-distiller - well worth the expense as I use steam-distilled water exclusively for drinking and cooking.
CALCIUM: you absolutely have to have calcium to utilize vitamin C, vitamin D, the list goes on. Lots of controversy over which type of calcium supplement is best, how best to get it from foods, how much you need, etc. This site has some good information on calcium, plus a free download of an excellent book, "Alive and Well" by Dr Philip Binzel. (Click the download tab.)
http://www.laetrile.com.au
Don't let the word laetrile scare you - this site is talking about vitamin b-17, a substance that occurs naturally in over 1200 common foods, and that can be a powerful and SAFE tool for staying cancer free. Even if you decided not to increase intake of B-17 foods, Dr Binzels book is well worth reading for the general information he offers on using natural foods and supplements to fight cancer, and his anecdotal information is really excellent.
I hope this information helps. I am always happy to answer any questions you may have. I wish you the best in staying cancer free!!
Sincerely,
Tre
