My urolgist weren't very open to the idea of trying to reduce my prostate and/or tumor before surgery. A second one was slightly more open to lycopene and some of the other herbals. I can accept that radiation,cyro/hormonal might produce scarring, etc. But has anyone any information with respect to 1. aromatase inhibitors, 2. fosomax, 3. lycopene, 4. soy isoflavones, 5. other herbals or meds?

Lycopene and soy isoflavones have considerable research support as far as reducing PC risk and, tumor growth, and quite possibly, metastasis, from what I have read. I have been taking large doses of them for several years. As far as reducing prostate size pre-prostatectomy, they probably would not do that, as far as I know, unless you have benign hypertrophy (harmless enlargement of the prostate, which can cause slow urination). Why do you want to reduce prostate size pre-surgery? If you have prostate cancer, wouldn't the cancer progress while you are hoping to reduce prostate size? Personally, I opted for the surgery ASAP, since my prostate was full of cancer, and now I have been in full remission for almost 4 years.

Well since I just got the diagnosis I was hoping to possibly forestall surgery at least until I am surer about my options-- but did not want to possibly complicate possible later surgery. My tumor is a small one, possibly quite small, therefore I want to explore less drastic treatments first.
