My Dad Has Cancer:(

My Dad was just diagnosed with non small cell lung cancer stage 3B. This is all new to me...I know so little about cancer...My parents live far from us, so I am trying to help my mom out by going on the internet and finding out information for her. There is so much information that I do not know where to begin. My dad starts chemo this week and my mom does not know what to expect. I know everyone reacts differently. I don't know what to tell her...I wish they lived closer...I feel so helpless...

I completely understand what you are going through.  My dad was just diagnosed 3 weeks ago with Stage 4 NSCLC Lung Cancer with metastases in the upper lobe of the same lung and a mass on his T3 vertabrae.   They also live about 4 hrs away.  

I am interested in finding this out as well (he's been prescribed radiation and chemo) that are to begin next week.

Thank you for your reply. Sorry to hear about your dad. My mom and my dad met with a nutriousnist at the hospital to help him with things to eat while he undergoes chemo. They also are talking with some other cancer patients to see how they are with their treatments. That did make my parents feel a little better. I am one of 7 siblings and we are about 16 hours from our parents and so we are going to take turns going out to help. I still wish they weren't so far from us.

I will let you know how he makes out with his treatments in the weeks to come.

5 yrs ago I was dx with Stage4, NSCLC and given 1%. I went through Chemo, Radiation, and participated in the clinical trials for IRESSA, a growth preventer. I take it everyday and it works for me. I have trequent MRI's, CT's, PET Scans with good results. Ask yr doctor about IRESSA
