What Is The Difference Between Non And Just Small Cell?

I can't figure out the differences in Non and just small cell lung cancer?

I was told 3 weeks ago that I have non smlc, and that non is the better type?? THey gave me 6-9 months. What is that better than ?? They say I can have a clinical trial only.

i'm sorry to hear that. My mom was just diagnosed with lung cancer that spread. They said its treatable not cureable. iI am not sure what type if its non or small cell so I don't know what the difference is either. If you find out let me know. How did you find out that you had it?

I'm not a doc either, but my understanding is that small cell spreads like "wild fire"... I have NSC and a friend had small cell...they (the docs) also told me that if you were going to get lung cancer that NSC was the "better" one to have...I think because small cell is more aggressive ...thats my thinking anyways....God Bless! In my humble opinion...no doctor or anyone should "quote" how much longer one has to live...How does anyone know that?????.fight like hell to live indefinitely.

Nick62, the main difference between the two is small lc is fasting growing and more difficult to treat. Stats from my doctor told me when i was diagnosed 26 months ago and gave me little hope.
