My husband (36 year old) has just been diagnosed with a reacurrence of Soft Tissue Sarcoma. Thursday will be his 4th surgery. Each time it has been in the same spot on his left leg. However, with this surgery there is no way to save his leg. So I am wondering if anyone has been through this kind of an amputation. We are in MA and we are getting 2 different recogmendations for rehab. We just aren't sure what the best choice is. Some say Spaulding. So say they are too big and we should look at Whittier (which is also closer to home). I'm just not sure which is best for his whole recovery and it is beginning to look like this is going to be my decision. I'm just afraid I'm going to make the wrong one. Maura

Maura O, It is not my husband, but it is my best friend. I am just trying to get a better understanding about what is going on. How long has your husband had Sarcoma? Did they say that it maybe heriditary? My best friend has had two operations only to see what it was. The biopsy showed that it was tumors (Sarcoma). The good thing is that it is only in her leg and has not spread. She is currenly taking chemo treatments every 21 days, and says that she that she feels the lumps in her leg shrinking. Was that about the same for your husband? I would hate for to lose her leg though. But if that is what will keep her alive then I am all for it. I did not even imagine that is could go that far.

Hi Heather, My Best Friend is doing good. She has had her forth chemo treatment. Now they will redo all of the test to see were there are.. Hopefully it has shrunk the tumor. When I last felt her leg it seem to have gotten bigger to me, she now says it feels smaller If the chemo did not help, they will take the lymph node out of her leg. My Best friend was diagnosis in June. Again we are now waiting to do the retest to see if this battle is close to over. She is still in good spirits and actually went back to work for two weeks. She can only work for two weeks because every 21 days she has to go into the hospital for her treatments. She was so tired of being home. She often gets depressed when it is time to go back in the hospital for her chemo trearments. Other than that she is doing great.... How is your father doing now? Is he going through the chemo yet? I will continue praying to God and asking him to help them overcome this battle. I will let you know the outcome of her test results when she gets them to let you if the chemo worked or not.... GOD WILL CONTINUE TO BLESS THOSE IN NEED.....

My partner had a soft cell carcenoma on his right ankle it was tangled through his nerves tendons etc so amputation was the only way. The amputation was below the knee an autopsy was performed on the foot and no cancer cell were found above the wound he is now after 8 weeks walking on a prothsesis and was told with these sort of cancer there is a 50/50 chance of it growing back and chemo only adds 10% to future cancer so we opted not to have chemo but a regular cat scan every 3 months to see if it has gone to the lungs. This will be our second all clear scan.

Good call on the no chemo, if mainstream medicine gave the real statistics and facts on cancer treeatment, most would likely not do them.  I would recommend high levels of nutrtional support and a change in lifestyle depending on your current eating habits. Nutrtion is so important for everyone but especially in a cancer situation if you want to increase your chances of not having the cancer come back you will need to be vigilant all your life. Visit www.polymva.com and see what you think. Please do something to increase your immune system and use nutricuticals like CoQ10, vitamin C, selenium and other antioxidants, vitamins and minerasl.  Good luck,  al
