Hi, I am 16 years old and have just found out my dad has liver cancer a few hours ago.  He has been hiding it from me for a few weeks.  It seems to me that after researching some things he may be in the second or third stage of this now.  He is a 65 year old male currently with hep.C and diabetes.  He has 4 tumor masses in his liver, the largest reaching a size of 3.7 cm. As well as 3 hypodense lesions of suggestive cysts.I don't know what to do please im very scared if anyone can tell me anything about how long he may live, what I can do,anything really please please please dont hesitate to email me or reply. I just want to be able to help my family and keep my dad alive for as long as possible.

Dear All,

My father is sufferring from advanced stage liver cancer (HCC) with right portal vein also effected. The doctors all over the world respond that the surgery is not possible including transplantation, chemotherophy and radiology is also not effective. The only option available is to take Nexavar for it...

Can anybody using Nexavar or have some review of this medicine including side effects and other information...........??????

I have search alot on internet and also discuss with two to three doctors, one recommends it as he is an oncologist, the others being a gastrologist and Homeopathic doctors does not recommend it satisfactorily.

hi, not trying to be mean or rude but could you please tell me more detailed how your dad got worse? my dad was recently diagnosed. the doctor said there was nothing to do cause he is 85 with diabetes and the main vein feeding the liver is blocked so the liver is failing and dying , like your dad mine was normal for a month but now he's been exactly like you said going downhill, hes getting swollen and not in pain but uncofortable now hes got pneumonia and i wish i had a real reference on how can it go on. he was given 6 months of life hes on his 3rd.

My father was diagnosed 2 years ago after a stroke, 3 chemo embos. In August his cancer met to the Adrenal gland. He was given 7-11 months. Started on Nexavar -full dose ( 4 pills)-- for 1 month, then off -- it made his bilirubin levels go up. Then half dose. He feels fine. He is going to have raditation in Dec for the Adrenal gland as long as the bilirubin stays low. This is a crazy disease! His liver tumors have not grown ( Nexavar). I would suggest taking blood tests reg. --  that is what my dad does--weekly blood tests. My father has the fight in him--he wants to live--so much so that he is booking cruises in the late winter.  We have him drinking barley water ( to lower his bilirubin lever--not sure if this really works? --we will try anything :))  i have heard that when they go down hill it is quick but right now we are taking it one day at a time and staying positive ( he wont let us get negative :))

Nexavar is such a tricky medicine, in order to processed your liver had to be working, My husband used the medication for one month and the side effects are not worth the benefits (the medicine only extends you life for about three months) but you have to decide if is worth it the quality of life is very poor.  If you decide to use it there are programs that can help with the financially part, ask your doctor's office they should offer some trial programs. Good luck, and God bless you

My husband is about to start on Nexavar as it is the only alternative he has for living a little longer.  His liver is cirrhotic and too weak to even be seen by M D Anderson.  I was wondering about the side effects and if it was worth it.  I guess we will see.  Thanks for that note.

Seek a second opinion because there is so many treatments and their are good ones and also, dependes the stage of cancer. Do not be afreied and ask those questions to her physician.
