I'm John, age 76 and diagnosed 4 years ago with prostate cancer that is now in the bones.
My doctor put me on Hormone treatments and have had radiation. Now he suggested doing a monthly injection of Zometa. Does anyone have experience with this and what side effects would I expect to have? Thanks, J

John:

My Father had monthly injections of Zometa - for mets to the bones - and they seemed to work for him really well. He only had 4 injections -but it did help decrease bone pain, and slow down the spread to other areas. He did not have any "real" side effects from the Zometa - although you need to drink lots of fluid for 48 hours afterwards - cause it can affect the kidney functions (but they will also do blood tests to check monitor your functions as well). With him for some reason exactly 3 weeks after the IV injection - he just had a REALLY REALLY BAD day - but then he would perk back up.

When he started Zometa his PSA level was 2250 - his prostate cancer was hormone refractory after 10 years of taking hormone treatments - in January his level was 3725 - he stopped all treatment and passed away in June. If his cancer had NOT become hormone refractory - he could have lived quite a long time with that & the bone cancer. His oncologist said he's never seen a level quite that high -

Good luck with the Zometa - I think it is a good drug - its not a cure - but it HELPS A LOT!!!

my father was 82 when diagnosis said gleason of 7.5(very high)of prostate cancer.today a yr. an 6 months after,he went for hormone treatment 4 injections in a yr.but what really help him without having radiation which they wanted to give agrressively, was first our faith in God,then immediately after diagnosis change in eating habits radically for 1 month an a half 80%on veggies an fruits no red meat ,walking at least 10 to 20 mins.,under the sun 9 sunrays hitting face(not between 10 am and 3 pm)more than 10 glasses of water(better is mineral water or water-bottle with 5 proccessing filtration.ex.u.v,microfiltrated,ozone etc.. Water will flush your toxins out including drugs on your system like all the doctors subscribe as treatment(radiation=known to give cancer everybody knows that but thats all they know they make money by having one sick)they give drugs(not on shelf but made at laboratories that have to make money)rest always between 10 pm and 3 am best time for body to heal, organic food all u can get worth the money(health)good vitamins and minerals they are patented high quality 60 tablets good for 2 months.and most important pray an believe in god the father ,jesuschrist and holy spirit, god bless a friend here will pray for u. P.s. he is 83 and a half yr olds as of today and on his diet about 60 % percent fathfull but doing great after the first month of changing his behavior last yr.his cardiologist took one of his diuretics out forever the other diuretic pill(to control hypertension he had)instead of every day one every other day his hypertension pill (thats 3 pills total)he lower the dose and told him he would keep lowering if he tested the same on lab tests.
