Hello everyone...
This is my first time posting. My mother was diagnosed with colon cancer in Oct 2004, she had surgery in Nov to remove the cancer and had radiation and chemo after the surgery. A petscan showed up a tumor on her liver the size of a nickel so she had RF surgery to remove that spot 12 wks ago. She had a petscan 2 wks ago and the tumor is back and it is the size of a silver dollar. She is scheduled for liver resection surgery Aug 29th. They are taking out the lobe that has the tumor. I am so concerned for her because she is 72 yrs old and is still weak from all the previous surgery and treatments. Is there anyone in her age group on this board that has had liver resection? I would be interested in knowing how your recuperation from the surgery was. I really am afraid of losing my mother during surgery.
She had a mini stroke during radiation and chemo treatment in Jan 2005.

Thanks,
Linda

I hope things went well on MOnday. I apologize for not seeing this message sooner.

My father had colon cancer with liver mets and diagnosed in Dec. The first surgeon told him to go home and prepare for the end. We took another opinion and started our fight with chemo and just recently had 1' of his colon removed, 60% of his liver resected and his gall bladder and appendix removed. He is 6 weeks post op and continues to do well. He begins 'clean up/consolidaton' chemo again this Friday. He did well with the surgery and was out of the hospital in less than 2 weeks;. He is walking 2 miles a day already and is feeling stronger. ONe thing the doctors attribute things to is his positive attitude...if your mother's goes bad, help her get it back. And the one thing to keep in mind is when they come out of anesthesia and for the next few days, they will act opposite as is normal - they don't remember anything for at least 4 days. Just make sure the doctors control her pain. Ask to talk to a pain manager. We went to UPMC (Pittsburgh) and had super care - I hope you get the same.
