Hello,

I was diagnosed with a grade 2 LMS in 2003. There was an 8mm tumor at my left elbow. I just had surgery, my oncologist felt I didn't need any other treatment.

Then last year a small nodule showed up in my Left lung, no biopsy done. It was stable until now and my onco felt it didn't need any more investigation.

Now I've just had an MRI cause my liver doesn't look good on my June scan. The MRI analyst told me there a two nodules, one is 24mm. He told me also they've been visible on the scans ever since 2003.

I'm seeing my family doctor on Thursday, then we'll see if I need to get to my onco fast.

I've been through a lot recently, my mother died of a melanoma. I just feel this is unfair and I'd like to go on with my life, at last stop worrying. Does it ever stop?

I just want to hear from you all, suffering LMS. Are mets to the liver typical? I know I'm going too fast to conclusions, I just would like to know what treatment I can expect.

Thanks,
Maud

Don't let anyone tell you that you don't need treatment. I made that mistake & have LMS mets to both lungs, skull, & left femur. My original sight was uterine & it was found when I had a hysterectomy in Nov 2004. Gyn doctor said no need for treatment because LMS doesn't respond...I would be wasting my time. I've since had a steel rod inserted in the leg to stableize it but that didn't work so I just had a total hip replacement. I went through 12 radiation treatments to the skull & leg this summer & am currently in a clinical trial (CCI-779). I am responding to this drug. Lung tumors are shrinking & no new growth. There have been a couple little spots on my spine but they don't appear to be growing either.
Anyway, I would seek a 2nd opinion or go to a sarcoma center.

My daughter had just been diagnosed with leiomyosarcoma and two weeks later after having some scans done, they found that she also has breast cancer. That's two different kinds of cancers. She'll be having a bilateral mastectomy in July. My husband just died of pancreatic cancer two weeks ago. What is happening? Are there more outbreaks of cancer now? or is it that I'm in the nightmare now and hear about cancer all the time now? Help, get me off this nightmare. What do people do in this type of situations? Only thing I know to do is pray to God.

Hope everyone out there with LMS is doing good. My clinical drug CCI-779 stopped working in February 2006 so now I am on Taxotere & Gemazr. I've had scans in April & June 2006 and it seems to be working. Praise the Lord! They are not only shrinking in size but in numbers too. My left lung had 20 nodules in April but now has only 12 & my right lung had 15 & now only 11.
The main struggle is still with my new hip. I had a total replacement in December '05 & it has dislocated 2 times. I have to be VERY careful of how I move. I also have a lot of fluid retention. Doctors say my lymphatic system was damaged by radiation & every couple of weeks, the swelling in my legs & feet make me feel like I'm carrying aroung a bowling ball on each leg. The swelling goes away while I'm on the steroid for treatment (about 1 1/2 weeks) but then it returns once the steroid wears off. Oh well, at least I'm walking now with my new hip instead of in a wheel chair or on crutches.
God Bless You All. Do all that you can do & surrender the rest to HIM.
