I am new to this group and here is what I am dealing with in my 12 year old greyhound, Holyfield.  We were referred to K-State this past Monday.  There is a tumor at the trigone region affecting the urethra making the mass innoperable (sp) .  After a full day of testing they stopped short of a definitive diagnosis of TCC because there were too many inflammed cells in the urine to get a positive reading so we are on Piroxicam and Clavamox for the next 10 days and then go back for more tests.  Holy is eating pretty well and still drinking.  I feed SD Senior and add boiled hamburger to it to try and put some weight back on him.  He's lost 11 pounds since July.  Radiograph of his lungs came back clear.  Does anyone have any  suggestions dietary or otherwise that I might begin trying to fight this ugly disease?

Hi Jodi & Holyfield

Go to the top of the page and type in TCC (next to Search).  You will be reading for hours but you will get a wealth of information from many who have been or currently are where you are.  I have read many of the posts and they have excellent suggestions for diet, medicine, etc.  I wish you the best - I know my two boys were a huge comfort to me while I was going through treatment.

I have some ideas for you. My cocker spaniel Rachael is 9 month post surgery for tcc and has also had chemo and several holistic treatments. She just had her 9 month ultrasound today and is still cancer free. I would see a holistic vet about acupuncture. Rachael has acupuncture once per month for the cancer and arthritis and I feel it has helped. Also try a holistic remedy called Bladder Strength. Its a herbal remedy that improves bladder functioning. It will not cure the cancer but it will help with the weak stream, urine leaking, straining issues that plague most bladder cancer dogs. We also use the Budwig Diet and I feel her overall health has improved on that - expecially weight gain.

Thanks for your help.  Holy is not a candidate for surgery :-( but I'm willing to try anything to help him.
