Subject: Side Effects of Temodar
Date: 09/13/2005
My father was dx Aug. 29th with GBM, they removed one tumor but could not remove the larger of the 2. 10 days later he started on radiation and temodar. 3 days after starting the treatments he broke out in a severe rash on his stomach, back, face and neck. They stopped the temodar and for 2 days the rash seemed to disappear, but then yesterday it was back almost like it was the first day. Can this be a delayed effect of the temodar? Or could it be something from another medicine he is on?

Just wondering if anyone else out there has experienced anything similiar to this.

Thank you,
Katie

Hi Katie,

I'm sorry to hear about your dad. My husband had a similar reaction when first starting Temodar. They gave him benydryl which is over the counter and it helped alot. You might ask his doctor about it. He still gets itchy at times but doesn't seem to get the rash. Sorry I can't be more help. Take care,

Patty

Hi Gina,

My husband age 58 was dx. in 1/05. He had surgery, radiation, and is on 5 day Temodar regimen. He has remained working full time since three weeks after surgery. In fact he commutes 200 miles a day to L.A. I frankly don't know how he does it. But he continues to have no recurrence of tumor and aside from fatigue is doing very well. I think each person is different, but so far my husband is tolerating work very well. His doctor has encouraged him to continue with 'life as usual' because he says that the people who do usually do better. I think it takes your mind off this terrible disease. Anyway, hope that helps.

Katie, is your dad on dilatin for seizures? If so, you should have the doctors check his levels...this may be causing the rash. My mom was dx 5/25/05 with an oligodendroglioma and was on dilatin for 2.5 months when she developed a severe rash across her midsection, back and chest. They took her off of that and within 2 days the rash was gone.

Dana, my mom was dx in 05/05 w/oligodendroglioma; had surgery and radiation/chemo for 6 1/2 weeks. Everyone we talked to said in 2 weeks you'll start feeling the side effects. Exactly 2 weeks from the start of her treatment she started losing her hair, and she got very tired. She didn't have the nausea b/c she was taking an anti-nausea med with the Temodar. Other than being tired, she was still able to get around and do things, except for driving. I hope this helps! Dora

My husband started Temodar in July '05. He had a recurrence in June '06, surgery in Sept.; removed the tumor except 1cm; had glial-site procedure in Oct.'06. He had rash with Temodar; controlled with steroids.  He is weak on left side but do not know the real problem.  How is you mother?
