RE: Swallowing HELP PLEASE

On 10/16/2008 fransan wrote:Hi:It will be three years this Dec. since surgery and that less three months since radiation and chemo. I had no problems eating until 10 days ago, my Onocologist says he cannot see anything, but I feel swollen in the throat, feels like there is something there, and creamed soups will not even go down,(radiologist could not find anything either). Anyone else have this problem? I am down to 95 lbs. Thank you.At 95 pounds a feeding tube should have been recommended, or least drinking 6 to 7 cans of Nutrin or Jevity per day. Taste has a lot to be desired but it takes care of all nutritional requirements and will prevent weight loss unless there is a problem that goes beyond lack of nutrition. I am no authority on any subject but if your doctors have not reccomended the tube or feedings I'd suggest the opinion of another doctor. Soon! My doctors were reccomending a feeding tube when I went from 180 down to 160. No I did not take it. Hopefully swallowing is just a delayed side effect of radiation. Problems caused by radiation often show up 3 to 6 months later. Swallowing problems can be extreamly difficult to find. Your doctors have probably looked down the throat with a scope, routine 2 minute process. Have they tried barrium swallow tests and CT scans? I could tell you about my swallowing problems but mine were highly unusual. Lasted for years after radiation and did not have what you could call a happy ending.
