White cell count down low after transplant

Hi All

This summer my husband had an autologous transplant and was slowly getting back to "normal" all results were good and we were starting to breath again - the doctors were amazed at how quickly his levels, and he, came back to normal. Just this last blood test (one week ago) show that his white cell count has shot down very low. We are waiting (and agonizing) for the results of a new scan and bone marrow test.

Has anyone experienced such a thing following transplant????

I'd be grateful for any feedback, it's now roughly 3 months since the actual transplant

Debbie,

My husband had a stem cell transplant a year ago in August. He too recovered quickly but also had low white blood cell counts for awhile after the transplant ( 3 mos or so ). Our Onx keep a check with it but did not seem too concerned at the time. Eventually they went up to a normal level. Hope this helps.

My dad had an auto stem cell transplant back in February 2009 for Mantle Cell Lymphoma. His counts had returned by day 60 post transplant, but when he was in for his day 100 tests they found his WBC to be very low again. His BMT physician thought it was related to the Bactrim he had to take post trasplant for PCP prophylaxis. After a shot of growth factor, stopping the Bactrim, his counts are slowly coming up again.

Hi,

My dad has also just gone through autologous stem cell transplant 3 months ago. His blood count levels were slow at first to pick but then they started to pick up and he was doing quite well but now his red cells, platlets and white cells have dropped. His white cell count is down to 0.6 maybe a bit lower and his platlet level was 87 now has dropped to 17. He also has just had a bone marrow test and is going for scan anyday. We are worried that the cancer has come back but we are trying to remain positive as it could be a number of things. You will have to let me now how you get on. Good look.

Jo
