RE: UPDATE

My daughter maddison is 3 she will be 4 in july, on jan 23 of 2013 while doing her hair i noticed two lumps on the right side of her neck. They are pretty small maybe the size of an almond or a little bigger. I took her to her peditrician and she sais it was due to an infection.. here it is april there is now three and the top one has gotten a little larger. Her dr has checked them three times and says the same thing. So i made and appoitment with an ENT who said she thinks its cat scratch fever and gave her medicine for that, which she will be one with on sat. They are still there no smaller really and we go back to the ENT on may 10th. The ENT said if they were still present then we would do a cat scan and schedule a byopsy. If any one has any thoughts please msg me on here or by email mmmama.NK @gmail.com. Thank u.

On Oct 23, 2008 12:00 AM AngelaZ wrote: Hi,I found a largish lump on the right side of my neck about a month and a half to 2 months ago. It has not changed in size as of yet. I googled lump on side of neck and kept comming up with 2 possibilities, an infection or cancer. That scared me terribly, so I decided to wait a while and see what happens with it. Well, I finally went to the Dr. today and mentioned the lump on my neck. He felt it, and said that it "could" be because of an infection but since it has not went away and I have had it for at least six weeks he couldnt be positive. He then mentioned that it could be a cyst or a tumor. Then he mentioned Lymphoma. He said the likelihood of it being cancer was low. He then said I could wait a "while" (whatever that means) to see if it goes away or I could go ahead and schedule a cat scan. I, of course went ahead and scheduled a CAT scan. God knows I dont't want to hear the words cancer once I get the results but I am so worried that it is because the lump does not hurt, and no matter how much I try I can't get it to move. I'm terrified, I have 3 small children ranging from 5 years to 6 months old, and i'm basically just freaking out on the inside. I have no other symptoms other than this lump on my neck.I don't know what to do or think or what the chance of it being cancer is (even though the doc I saw said it was a low chance). Wouldnt he have given me an antibiotic or something if he thought it was an infection?Has anyone else been through this before? I'm scared, and would just like to hear others' opinions and experiences. Thanks,Angela ps. I am not sure when the cat scan is yet. They are supposed to call me with the date.Hi Ang:
I hope everything works out for you.
I hope it all is not as serious as you described because about a week ago, I was shaving and noticed a small lump on my neck. As I pushed and proded, it hurts. It hurts without touching it as well. It is about the size of a dime (or a little smaller). I thought is was just a twitch in the neck that would go away, or some kind of muscle spasm. Now, I have had it for approximately a week. It still hurts, and this morning I noticed a second one right next to it (about half the size of the first one).
This sucks...
Don't have insurance because I did not fill out my benefits package at work yet.
I know...very stupid of me...
Dont know when I'll see a doctor...
Hope it's nothing serious...
And wish the best for you as well...
Nick

RE: Lump on right side of neck. CAT Scan

Thank you for your concern, it helps to be able to talk to other people in the same boat, but I was just reading some of the other posts and please take my advice don't let the doctors think your crazy!!! My lump was only 1.1 cm and the poeple at the hospital that was doing the FNB laughs and said who sent her here, my ENT sent me and I had been in pain for 5 years before he finally sent me, I had to breakdown and cry in his office before he would finally do something but when your in pain and having to work and they want give you any pain medicine if they don't no what's wrong, you suffer, and I knew I wasn't crazy but trying to make them understand was a long hard battle so don't give up because my 1CM SMALL LITTLE LUMP WAS CANCER and thank god I found out because if it had not it would have spread I would have had to have chemo but because I caught it early I only had to have radiation only, thank the lord:) so people don't give up keeping pressing on because even if it's not cancer it can turn to cancer, the one in my tyroid was not but it would have been if I had not gotten 1/2 my tyroid taken out, but the one in my neck was!!! Keep an eye on the rest of your body too, I am having digestive problems now and they have done 4 more BYP and removed 6 bad polpys, but so far no signs, but the cancer doctor said it's not unusual for head and neck lymphoma to spread to the digestive area, so watch out for stomach problems, just letting you know, all that's popped up since I've had treatment one year ago and this has been going on for about 6 months. I also have two small undetermined spots on my liver but their to small to tell anything and as long as they don't grow I'm good but if they grow he said I will be stage 4 and I will have to go through chemo and radiation:( praying that that don't happen, live your life to the fullest because we only have one chance:) good luck to everyone!

Ask each doctor to give you written reports of every findings from each test. I tell 'em, "Okay that sounds helpful, but I'm not going to rememeber everything you just told me- can you send a written summary or report of the findings?"

Go to the doctor. A FNA is a needle biopsy- they draw out some fluid- not much though- just enough to send to the lab for testing.
Fine Needle Aspiration. I had some relief after my FNA 2 weeks ago but now I have 2 more lumps. Good luck- you're young. You'll be okay just get to that doctor.

RE: Lump on right side of neck. CAT Scan

I have a lump on my neck too; it was slightly swollen for months- ha, maybe years but about mid June it began to get larger- finally about the size of a ping pong ball. Doctors scoped my nose, sinuses and my throat- then performed a needle biopsy (to the lump)- results stated the cells were A-typical (not normal). I painted the whole outside of my house that weekend. ha Thought I was goood to go.
The lump was uncomfortable while it was getting larger- he said like stretching tissue - it was probably tender & sore. Oh yeah. Four days of tender, sore neck area. The CT scan stated I had a mass or tumor on my neck. No kidding.
They ordered a PET scan to locate the source.
Then he scheduled a surgical biopsy last Thursday- easy surgery but he removed part of my tongue (about the size of an olive pit). This was performed to determine exactly WHAT it is- still don't know for sure. Waiting for final lab results now- still.
I just turned 53 the day he called to say it looks like lymphoma. I feel fine except for occasional fatigue & some intolerance to exercise & warm weather. Rebuilt parts of my chimney Sunday.
All the doctor appointments are a real burden. Call the ENT then find find out where you can get a buy on a PET scan.
I read somewhere if it's cancer- that cancer feeds on sugar, carbohydrates and starches. Also, cancer does not like oxygen enriched tissues. I'm considering regular treatments & non-traditional . . . good luck.
THe biopsy is supposed to tell ya WHAT it is.
The PET scan is supposed to tell ya WHERE it is.
I think the CAT scan was a waste.

RE: Lump on right side of neck. CAT Scan

Inside the hair line. I have had cysts for yrs and when I was sick of them and they got too big, I had them removed.
I have had 4 cancers and almost died 7 times but I am still here and have 2 daughters and 10 grandchildren.
It's hard not to be scared. Just ask the doctor what it is and if he can remove it. We did mine in the clinic and I was awake.
They can break it internally but the sac will fill up again. So I asked they do the minor surgery and take out sac each time.
Let us know what you find out.

Angela z,,,I also had a large lump on my neck. The first thing the Dr did was a biopsy. That is the first thing your Dr should have done.Mine is lymphoma, and I have had radiation. It has been two years since the treatment, and so far I am okey (blood wise) I am 76 years old and not in good health otherwise,( I have heart Failure),so I woud advise you not to wait....find another Dr NOW. Go to a cancer center. I am in mi, and many hopitals have them !

Thanks for asking and I hope you are doing great also:) No more hot flashes either!!!I was reading through this thread because I found a lump at the back of my neck (painless and like a frozen pea that doesn't move) at my hairline around the same time I started getting a really bad cough (which has come and gone over the years but no doctors have been able to tell me why). I'm still coughing so bad that my throat is getting raw :( This was three weeks ago. Now in the past ten days I've had a tiny hard one in the soft spot behind my left ear, one on the left side of the back of my neck (also around my hairline), and today one in the middle of my left side neck. I've also been having EXCRUCIATING headaches that come out of nowhere only on the left side of my head that feel like my eye is being shoved out of my socket. Your post caught my attention because you mentioned your hearing!! I attributed my left ear ringing and muffledness to a loud gunshot too close to me on thanksgiving but lately when my head starts hurting both ears feel pressurized. I've been sweating enough at night that my shirt is damp, but not soaked like I've been reading on the web. The last couple times I've tried to go out and have a couple glasses of wine with my girlfriends it's almost like I've been poisoned for the next two days. I've lost 6 pounds in the last week (from 134 to 128). I'm not really hungry.
I have my first regular physical scheduled for Monday morning but I'm not really wanting to say anything about this to my dr bc he always looks at me like I'm a hypochondriac if I say something's bothering me! I'll mention it to him because I'm a little scared (I'm 36 w 2 teenaged boys who already lost their father 7 yrs ago) but will something show up in a regular physical? Is there something specific I need to tell him to do (since I'm the one paying for Pete's sake! LOL)??? Am I worrying over nothing and just letting Google get in my head?? I haven't talked to anyone about this yet, so I need whatever advice anyone can give... :)If your physician acts as though he thinks you are a hypochondriac, find a new physician. Be proactive and don't take it. My soon-to-be ex husband is a physician and he would be the first to say to do so. Your symptoms could very well have nothing to do with cancer (ex. night sweats - menopause,...) but, given that you don't know until you check it out, you need to look into it. Being married to a physician, I know that I was more guilty than most about not being proactive. However, I kept feeling as though something was not right...bulge in my neck, crazy weight gain (everyone just assumed I was eating secretly), lethargy, ... loss of hearing, one sided headaches that seemed to extend down into my back, hot flashes at night,... and it turned out I had tumors in my thyroid (not malignant). Even my ex was not proactive (physician's families get horrible care often ... just as the cobbler's children have no shoes ;-) Be respectful but, yes, realize you are the one paying for her/him...because of people like you, he/she has a job/career. If your physician cannot take an appropriate amount of time with you and listen to your symptoms (who knows your body better than you?), move on. Do not allow their "air of superiority" make you be passive and not proactive.

My back doctor found a spot on my thyroid and I had to go back to the ENT I had already seen several times. He removed 1/2 my thyroid in May of 2010, it showed a follicular adenoma which is benign, 5 months later I had a swollen lympnode in my left side of my neck, right about where the pain had been for the whole five years, guess what they treated me with an antiboties for 14 days and it didn't go away, he then scheduled me for needle biopsy and guess what maybe lymphoma? Did surgery and it was NH Lymphoma. My doctor said I'm sorry tell her that I don't think she is crazy anymore, to my family who was in the waiting room, so please if you have any swollen lymph nodes that don't go away don't give up keep pressing to get them checked, blood work did not show a thing and hardly even the biopsy did, it showed maybe? So I just go to work and just barely make it through the day and all I do is come home and just die because I'm so tired, you can't sleep good at night because of the night sweats, I get cold and then hot, I don't fell good and mine is just grade 2 which means 2 lymph nodes and it's stage 1 because it's only above the diaphram, but I can't enjoy my life anymore and I just pray I live to see my grandchildren, and thank you lord for letting me live to raise my children because to all of you who are raising children and who are children I pray for you that your life will be healthy and happy. I also have a fairly large lump on the right side of my neck. I mentioned it to my family doctor and he sent me for blood work and a chest x-ray right away. They were clear. Then off to a hematoligist who sent me for a mammagram, a cat scan of the chest, abdoment, and pelvis. Plus an appointment with a ENT. He included in the cat scan a head and neck scan. He also did a biospy of the lump. The cat scan is clear thank God. Still waiting for the biopsy. The first one was lost ??? I had the second one last week - it will take 2 or 3 weeks for the results. Scared but hoping and Praying for the best. Good Luck to all Love Donna

Hello everyone. My name is Marie (not the Marie who previously posted). I have been suffering with stage 3 Lyme disease for a year now. It disabled me so bad that I could not walk, think, take my own baths and I had to live with my parents for a few months at the age of 27.
Lyme Disease has over 100 symptoms. You may have 90 of them, or you may have five. It is a very tricky disease. If you are told that your lymph node is swollen because of infection and it does not go away, if you have tiredness and other symptoms along with it, I would do some deep research into Lyme Disease. It is a major infection that can be very hard to cure and completely disable you if it spreads.
You do not need to go camping. Your dogs can bring in ticks from the yard. I live in a fairly large city and just hung out in back yards. The tick that bit me gave me Lyme disease, Babesia (an evil form of malaria) and Bartonella (Cat Scratch Fever). Bartonella and Babesia are known as co-infections of Lyme disease.
Now, I am writing this because I have the same neck problem. It does not mean you have Lyme Disease. It is just to let you know what I have experienced. My glands are swollen from a huge infection and I have been in treatment for a year.
Now, if you remember any of what I said, remember two things: you do not need to have a rash (about 40% of people see the rash) and you need to know that Lyme testing is VERY inaccurate no matter what test you have, but the western blot is the most accurate. You MUST do your own research and find a doctor who specializes in Lyme.
I wish you all great health and hope you all are doing better.

Have you told your Mom and anyone in your family? You should. Then you should see a Dr. It probably is fine. Just to be on the safe side, you should go to the Dr. you are young, so less likely I believe your chances go up as you go older, I read, higher after age 55. None the less you should go. Then you will also feel free of the worry.

My gp told me it was a cyst and would go down, Well I had it biopsed which i strongly suggest you do as it is the only to determine what it is. anyway had it biopsed then was called next monday and told i had hodgkins disese. It was on the same place yours was. GPs dont know SHIT. Get it biopsied it is the only way. I had stage 3 of four stages. The sooner you find out the better the odds of recovery do not wait. If it is hodgkins recovery is good nonhodgins is worse..
I was in stage 3 and was still running 5 miles a day felt fine but it was in my lungs, spleen but thank god it had not gotten to my liver yet.
It may be nothing but go to a specilist . get it biopsed by a vascular surgeon. If it is cancer they will be able to tell you. ct and xrays will not show if it is cancer.
Please take this serious I dont want to scare you but be diligent the sooner you know the better the odds.

I found a small lump on the right side of my neck about a year ago. I didn't think much about it since I've had a lymph node on the back of my neck for almost 30 years from mono. But now I am becoming worried because it is larger than a marble and growing. I lost my health insurance 9 months ago and can't afford to purchase it on my own. I feel fine otherwise. Should I be concerned and just make sure it doesn't grow any larger? Thanks so much for any information!

Hi, This is my update: I am doing pretty good. I had a last in the series of 8 on Christmas Eve. A monteh later, I had a cat san. When I saw the doctor, he said the Retuxin had done veryo well. He told me the lumps on either side of my neck were completly gone. He said the main cancer in my stomach had been reduced 90%. He told me, this was the best results he had ever seen!! I should have been elated, however................90%, ment I still had 10% in my stomach. After that, I had my next onocoligist appt. in March. He said my blood work, showed a slight increase, and it wasn't enough for him to start worring yet.I had a booster chemo (Retuxin) Mar. 22. The doctor told me, that he had changed his mind about my next treatments. He had originally told me, he was going to do one treatment every months.......now he has decided to wait six months, and then do a series of 4 treatments, one every week for 4 weeks. He said he has found out this is working better. So my next treatment is in Sept.I still live in fear of what is coming next. I am trying to eat healthy, and do everything right. I spend a lot of time on the computer researching all alternative treatments for cancer.Somedays I feel lucky, that my cancer is NOT fast growing. Other days, I feel bad, as I know I will at sometime die with this disease.I am lucky that the drug I am on, has No side effects to me, and I still have all my hair.My daughter for Christmas bought me a new laptop computer, so I could take it to all my chemo treatment. Most of them are 4-6 hours, so I really enjoy having something to keep me busy while sitting. It sure maked the time go fast. How are you doing? How about an update from you.Tracey

UPDATE

Hello and Thank You to all of the responses I recieved. Well here I am in March and still worried about my lump (it is STILL there). I did eventually get my CAT scan. The results were that I had an enlarged lymph node that was benign. OK. So I went back to the doctor after I recieved the news over the phone to see what to do next over it. He said it COULD be cat scratch fever (even though I told him I had NOT been scratched by my cat..she's really old), so he gave me some antibiotics and he said to take them, if the lump didn't go away then to "just not think about it". Those were his exact words. Well I took the antibiotics and of course the lump is still here... months later. I cannot just not think about it. I think about it every day. It's constantly on my mind. I have decided to see a different doctor, and insist on some sort of biopsy or blood work... anything. Oh, his explanation for the lump, if it didnt go away, was it could be scar tissue. The more I think about his words of wisdom to "just not think about it", I get really angry. I think of all the people out there who did end up having cancer, and had a doctor as uncaring and unconcerned as mine was, and lost time that could have been proiductive in stopping and/or curing their cancer. I am just mad at his attitude.Back to my lump, It has not grown in size at all. And I have no other symptoms. But, I want to know FOR SURE what this lump is. I do not care what kind of pain I have to go through to get it checked out, This not knowing is driving me nuts, and possibly causing me to lose valuable time here. I'm praying that it is just simply a lump and not cancerous. I honestly have been scared to get other testing done, and really just don't know where to go to since I do not want to see that doctor again. I WILL be calling a doctor on Monday to start the process of getting futher testing done over this lump. And hopefully I will have my answer soon. In the meantime, I am still terrified of what it could be.Angela

Finding your lump early is a blessing in its self. Whether it turns out to be cancer or not. I pray it is not! You are doing the right thing by scheduling a ct scan. I too had a lump on the right side of my neck that I had noticed for years but never thought enything about it. Mistake #1. However everytime I would see a Dr.(rarely) I would mention it but it never seemed to be a concern to Dr.. I even went for a complete physical when I turned 50 to make sure that I was in as good of shape as I felt I was in. No bad reports. Less than a year and a half later I found out otherwise. Please read my story of my cancer. Google search dondealshow and if I can be of any help to you please feel free to contact me. Stay strong, think positive and trust in God. Don
