Good Morning. Well I called my docter and he prescribed the Chantix for me. The only thing now is that my insurance doesnt cover it. Its a $136.00. So what i m gonna do is, wait until i have my surgery, see how i feel and if i still have the urge to smoke i will buy them then. I know the cost should not be of concern { compared to my health ) But I just cant get them yet. I check into the hospital in 3 days , I pray that my smoking days will be behind me then. Take Care and GOD BLESS

Hi Mike sorry  i havent been on this site since my surgeries, or i would of responded sooner , there has been sooooo much going on that i dont know where to start, good news 1st, i quit smoking on the day i went in to have my g-tube put in 11/25/08 and am still smoke free. Had throat surgery next day everything went very well, doc said they got all the cancer and at that time didnt need a trek. ( thank the GOOD LORD ) FOR ALL OF THAT . I was released 3 days after surgery with oxygen tank to use at night ,but as the healing process was taking place my airway for  was getting smaller, so needless to say i was in and out of emerg. 3 times because i couldnt breath , my surgent had already planned on doing another surgery to remove all my lypnodes in my throat witch included inserting a temp .trek for precaustionary measures. That was suppose to take place on 2/4/09 but on 1/27/09  i couldnt breath that  i was taken to the hospital by ambulance , and they decided to transport me to my hospital 27 miles away and my doctor put the trek in and they kept me in until i had my other surgery on 2/4/09 which after the surgery they released me i think to soon 2 days later. Needless to say i still have trek and g-tube i am able to do water ,juices .yogerts etc. by mouth for now ,but the healing didnt heal right so i have another procedure that they are gonna to on 5/27/09 they are gonna laser away the scar tissue to make the air passage bigger so i will be able to breath on my own again ,but my doc says it could heal the same way again, there gonna put some kind of medication on the site after they laser it thats suppose to slow the healing process so that it doesnt close the way it did the last time. oh i forgot to mention i was also rushed to the hospital by ambluance on 2/13/09 and spend 4 days there that time because i couldnt breath there was blood mucus plugs, all this stems from the 1st surgery i had. Dont get me wrong I AM BLESSED THAT THEY GOT ALL THE CANCER, but as i am sure YOU KNOW WHAT A HORRIABLY scary feeling not to be able to breath.. Anyway i have to go for now , take care my friend and GOD BLESS YOU. I hope to hear from you again

Hey Jr....just got caught up on your last posts...I couldn't find them for a while.  My friend it looks like you have been having a challenging time.  I had a few ugly issues relating to breathing just after my surgery that still makes my skin crawl just thinking about it, so I can relate to the issues you've had.  Hang in there man....sometimes we have to chart progress in very small increments but we have to look for them....keeps us going.  I hope you begin to get better where you can look back at this at some point.

Take care my friend.

Hi mike, i was glad i heard back from you., i had my other lazer surguery on Wed. it was an in and out procedure. What they did was lazer away the scar tissues that healed over my vocal cords and was obstrucking my airways to the point where i had a hard time breathing even with the trek.this time they put a medication on the site where they lazered so as to slow the healing process, that way they feel it wont heal the same way again. My ent said that he hadnt seen anyone heal that way before and that he thinks by using this medication i should heal the way im suppose to. He did tell my daughter while i was in recovery that i should be off the trek by 6 weeks and the feeding tube even sooner, because im already back to drinking liquids and eating  yougurts, puddings etc , im still taking liquid nutrens because i cant eat enough yet, my speech theripist (which i finally got approved for ) wants to do a barium swallow test before i start eating on a regular basis, theres that transition from feeding tube nutrients to regular food plus i dont have an upaglotis (sp err) to protect my lungs from food going down into my lungs. There is so much to the healing process that you have to get through your right, i read in one of your letters on your other site that the healing process can be challenging. anyway i can breath again with the speaking valve in without taking it out every 5 mins. because i couldnt breath with it on before for any lenght of time and my vocal cords are uncovered again so im able to talk to where people can understand me. I know i still have a way to go but i truly feel that im on the right road this time , i am truly BLESSED AND I THANKYOU FOR ALL THE ENCOURGEMENT YOU GAVE ME AT THE BEGINNING OF THIS ROAD AND FOR THE HELP AND ANSWERS THAT YOU PROVIDE TO OTHERS AT THE BEGINNING OF THEIR JOURNEY..I know that they appreciate you. TAKE CARE MY FRIEND, GOD BLESS YOU and i hope to hear from you soon

Jr, it sounds like you are making progress and that's a good thing.  Thank you for your nice compliments...they are really not necessary.  But it does look like you may have dodged a bullet.  If you have, its time now where you have to make good health decisions from now on.  And remember, progress is gauged in very small increments in this area.  Don't get discouraged....I had to learn patience for the first time in my life after my surgery.  There are so many things that we all take for granted until we pass a point where we can't change the outcome.  You hang in there, do everything you can do to better yourself, and live.  Keep me updated on how you are doing.

 Take care my friend.

Mike, i think the thing that scares me the most out of this recovery process is still remembering the mucus blogs that kept sending me to the hospital  after my last surgery because they were preventing me from breathing , i know i shouldnt be thinking in the past , and i am very fortunate that things werent as bad as they could of been , but just thinking that can happen again just horrifies me . ( I know  possitive thoughts ) I will do my best , i go back to the ent on 06/04/09 , he should be able to see than with the scope if things are clear below the trek. Until then alot of FAITH and PRAYERS. I will keep you posted. Take care my friend and GOD BLESS
