CA125 down to 113 from 12000 with no surgery??

My Mother was diagnosised stage 3C in June '08. She is elderly & although very healthy she didn't want to go through the debulking surgery that was recommended.  She opted for low dose chemo just to keep her comfortable.  Her ascities & bowel issues quickly subsided.

Her CA125 was 12,000 to start, then 760  & now (after 5 cycles of chemo) it is 113.  We didn't expect such results.

Has anyone ever known anyone to go in to remission from just chemo & no surgery?  Anyone skipped surgery and had great results like this?

Hi! I saw your post and was amazed at the luck that your mom has had! My mom was diagnosed at 3c as well, but started out with a CA-125 of 880 and did go through with the surgery, but she's only 47.

With your mom's age, I'm sure surgery had it's risks. Where did she go to  get treatment? Be sure to ask about PET scans, I read recently that tumors may be present but somehow won't elevate the CA-125, but I think that it was regarding reoccurring ovarian cancer. Might be something to watch out for, but what a great surprise that her symptoms are subsiding as well as her CA-125!

My mom was 93 when she was diagnosed with stage IIII colon
cancer.  Because of her age they did not recommend chemo
treatments and the doctor told us it would just be a matter of
time.  This was in April of 2006 and she is still going
strong.  Last year we were told that the cancer was in her liver
and was given 3 to 6 months, but she is still with us and we did not
tell her the  last diagnosis.  Ignorance must be
bliss.......her only complaint is that is is tired.  She will be
95 Christmas Eve.  I was diagnosed in October of 2006 with stage
III Ovarian Cancer and will be on Chemo for years to come.  Wish I
had her genes!!  Wishing your mom good health.
